Anyone aware of a summer camp or something similar near the colombus and ritson road area. My girlfriend said she and her friend would visit it and remembers buildings with bunk beds and a phone that had a brooklyn number which still worked. This was over twenty years ago and she didnt know if it was abandoned or just not in use at the time of her visit. Knowing how much things change i hold out not much hope that this place is still around. It would be interesting if someone did remember it however

I think Penner mentioned there being a community swimming pool up there (it's still there but the weeds and trees have overgrown around everything).

Yep, my friend who used to live in the area took me on a tour of the grounds a few years ago when the property was still accessible. It's very overgrown now and inaccessible.

I PMed you a map. I don't think it's fenced. There was a chain across the driveway and a sign the last time I was by. Unless you have a machette I don't think you're going to get too far on foot.

Graham Greene, the native actor, from Dances With Wolves has a place in Utica which isn't too far north.

She said for sure it was Lorne greene because it was years before graham had become famous. Must be some attraction to the area for people named greene. Also wanted to point out that she said the place had buildings with bunk beds. Doesnt quite jive with my image of a community pool but the locations seem too close for it to be different sites. to quote Robert Plant "Ooh, it makes me wonder"

When I toured the place 5-6 years ago there were no buildings left standing. I don't know for sure what the place was so it could have been a camp or a community recreation area. It did have a pool but it was filled in and only some evidence of it's previoius existance. We did see other signs of a rec. area but at this point I can't remember what.

well against the advice of everyone that it would be rough going and not much to find i set out to check this place over. And guess what? I found nothing lol. After having a look at the entrance i decided to have a go from the other side of colombus (following Colombus as it twists around and heads back towards oshawa)Found a path that took me into the woods where i nearly impaled myself on some old T-bar fencing hiding in the tall grass. Never did get too far into the woods but i did find where the farmer dumped all his old beer,pop and coke bottles since day one. The stuff looked to go back as far as the sixties, and no i did not take a pic of any coke or beer bottles. Got a little grief last time i did that. But i did find the remains of an old van and an old piece of farm equipment. not much to look at but since i risked my life i figured i best come out with at least one pic

Maybe someone with a good eye for vehicles could identify it by the taillights
There is a house just south of the location given to me for the entrance to the park that looked interesting. A stone farm house that is fenced up pretty good. was in a hurry so i didnt get out of the car for a pic just took one from the car

It is on Ritson past winchester heading north towards colombus you will see it on the west side just past the power lines. Again, i am sorry about the poor quality pics

I am sorry for being lazy but after i posted the pics of the farmhouse i found it in the database with pics by Penner. No excuse for my laziness though. Now i will get back to my lazyboy chair and eat my potato chips and coke.

Don't worry about that - it's not about who's first or who's in the LDB. Just explore and document stuff. Besides, everyone who took pics of the Brickworks after the first person to do so would also then have to apologise for "not being first".
