Yar. You can pick up 2x 80 GB SATA 2's for under 100$ and put em RAID 1. Those things will blow IDE (yuck) out of the water.

PLus your still limited by the hard drives mechanical speed, so SATA2, not worth the effort/money.

And least you aren't limited by the cable speed like IDE, and, you're forgetting about the 16MB cache on SATA2 which ensures longer drive life and less possibility of failure. The cost efficiency of SATA 2 is greater than IDE.

Are you saying 16MB of cache isnt available on IDE hard drives. Not generally, since SATA drives and IDE drives of the same size are the same price. Yes you are limited by the cable speed, but what does that matter, if your drive is only producing 74mbps on the mechanical side? Generally I dont need tobe shooting a 16MB worth of cache down a 300 some odd MBps line.
