What the fuck is the difference?

They both hop around like monkeys, and they both spit while making obscene sounds with thier mouths. There is no talent involved in this type of lol "music".

I would not say that there is no talent in that music. The problem is that rappers like 50 Cent, G Unit, Ja Rule, Emienm (can't he just die or loose his voice) or *insert commercial rapper here* are a real joke to the real hip-hop community, just rapping about whores, guns and well randomly inserting the word nigger.

BUT there are good hip hop artists. I really like Saul William (he rocks live), Digable Planets, The Roots, and even Cypress-Hill and the older stuff like Black Sheep. Those are just the few I can think of.

Just stop listening to the radio and MTV and it gets much MUCH better.

If there is no real talent, I'd like to see you try to do what Saul Williams does.

Yeah, Mr Joe. has been causing problems in the pets forum too.

On Rap/Hiphop.
If you look past the commercial rappers you see real talent. Talent isn't manufactured. Same with rock. nowadays rock is commercialized into free-flowing, media-conrolled bullshit. Look past that stuff to the old time bands, to bands like The Pixies and so on. Thats real talent right there.

old school rap... De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy, EPMD, Eric B & Rakim- all great talents. This new stuff sucks balls. Unfortunately, I do like Eminem and have no idea why... call it a character flaw.

While I don't go out of my way to listen to it, I do enjoy hip hop, or what ever label you want to give to "that" music. I just got picked up while hitching by a guy that made his own hip hop music, and it was bad ass. That was one of the best rides I got that day, from one of the coolest people I've met. I wouldn't have guessed he was into hip hop, much less made his own just by looking at him. Fuck your labels joe1488.

I hate to do it, and I'm not sure it needs to be said, as anyone that has seen that the type of person that would post such BS would already know this, but joe1488's post reeks of the "R" word without being overtly so. Its in the subtext.

I like a sprinkling of older stuff, and some newer stuff, but damn do I hate how commercial rap ruins the entire genre's image, though I do occasionally like to get a big laugh out of listening to total jokes like Paul Wall.

If it's genuine, I like to hear about shooting people and ho's and the like... I dunno, it's fun. But 50 Cent is not a gangsta.

I'm fond of Biggie, old NaS, Blackalicious, Slick Rick, Gangstarr, and The Streets (British rap!!) as well as Guru, older Three Six Mafia (back before they had to appeal to a mainstream audience, i.e. their satanic years) and Snoop Dogg.

no biggie, its not a religious reference...its a shortening of the opening line from Patti Smith's masterpiece album, Horses.

Sage Francis, Atmosphere, Tons of Fun University; now that's real music and rap. 50 cent, and all that other shit, that's not music, it's a commercial.

I can't stand rap for the most part, especially the new shit, but the old skool man, the old skool.

Run DMC, 3rd Bass, De La Soul. I can take that in short doses, even now that I'm older and more crotchety.

And of course, my perennial favorites, the Beastie Boys.

I hate eminem, though. That dude is a wanker.

If you didn't hear it enough already, I'll say it again. Nothing on the radio is worth listening to- that's true of almost every genre. Good hip hop requires a bit of effort to find, the same way that good rock or good whatever does. In fact, right now I'm listening to The Roots (Things Fall Apart, my favourite album of theirs).

I'll agree that most rappers who are the "face" of hip hop are not worth a second glance, but the real hip hop is below the surface, and is very real and involving music.
