Driving by the Watsons quality apples / David Towns homestead today i noticed a "Kaitlin Group" developers sign on the property. Also seen from the road was a large piece of plywood covering the entrance of the cinder block building. Another possible historic building will soon be gone. Maybe someone could research the property and prove that it is what we believe it to be { david towns homestead }. But judging on what has happened to other local houses i am not too optimistic on its future survival.

I saw people cutting the old apple trees down there today...I am sure the buildings will be coming down soon now. What a shame.

I assumed the abandoned gas station leased the land from the A&P, and once that was sold to the hospital, the lease ran out.

Regarding Watsons, this sucks. Another one bites the dust. Do you know Fedge if the old Hwy 2 runs farther west than the homestead?

Hwy 2 would have joined up to present day Hwy 2 by that church. There is, of course, the area at the north end of Waverley actually named Old Hwy #2 that is still used today. In Courtice there is a section of old Hwy 2 by the Tim Horton's called Old Kingston Rd. Oto and I discovered several old sections of Hwy 2 at the Durham/Northumberland border. You can drive down this old section a bit too!

What abandoned gas station? The only one I ever saw at King/Liberty was the gas station at 7-11. On the other 3 corners there's a bank, a grocery store (or it could be gone) and a house?

I'm J/K -- it's just the P-C station at the SE corner. It's shut down now...
