Liberty Street burned house < on 8/31/2006 12:30 AM > | Reply with Quote
This place On Liberty is about a mile or so back in the woods. A friend who mountain bikes in the area told me of it. Not much left of the buildings. Looked like it was constructed with chicken wire and cement. Have not seen that construction style in a bit. There was a piece of an old ski doo, a possible old well and a box of rusted metal doo-hickeys And on my trek out i saw the mother of all spiders!!. It was the size of my thumb
SOAP...Spiders on a path. I am sick of these Motherf'n spiders on this Motherf'n path!!!

Dont know if anyone was interested but i looked up the spider and found it to be an Orb Weaver. Also known as a garden spider they are common in late summer and early fall weaving webs on tall grass and plants. They live a short time, long enough to lay two or three tan coloured egg sacks. The male{my pic is the female} lives nearby in a make shift web and he is one quarter the size. I added a pic of the top of the spider showing different patterns than the other shots i took

Very nice. CP and I just drove in to the top of the hill. I wasn't aware there was more further back. It'll be interesting to see if this "still standing" house still exists too...

the place still standing is not a full house by his description. Just a small building he said. I have ruined one pair of track pants getting in there. They are covered in those little green clingy weeds. I might just toss them rather than spend an hour peeling them all off

Very cool pictures!! It is those places that drive me crazy with the who? where? what? thoughts!!!
I had the same type of spider in my garden last summer. She built a web in a perfect safe spot and the neighbourhood kids use to come up and look at her at all the time!! It is interesting to now know what kind of spider that is.

I did my best in identifying the spider and hopefully got it right. The burnt house is very much an anomaly. Did it burn when the house closer to the road burned? Was it owned or considered part of the same property? WAs it even a house/ cottage or just what was it. Many questions but in this case few answers. Then again if i wasnt so lazy maybe a trip to the library, city hall and museum would answer some of those questions
