Any one from Around K-W? With a scanner, or without one but looking? Wanna build a database of non Public Safety frequencies, such as some construction companies, so we can figure out some potential UE sites.

I might know someone with an extra HT1000 they'd trade for a modern Kenwood handheld.

I've got too many now as it is...hah.

Landon from radioreference and what not was asking about an HT1000, aparantly because that's what the local police use where he is.

Speaking of which...well...HT1000's anyway...Do you have any use for one? UHF that is. Consider it "on the house" to try (albeit in a pretty lame-ass way) and make up for being an idiot, if that makes any sense.

Pseudo private, eh? Sounds pseudo legal! There's enough love to go around, I'm sure we can work something out.

I'd go for a RIB if you have a spare, or even parts of one. Between me and my EE major housemates we could probably rebuild one, we have a mishmash of garage sale and police auction radios, but we're lazy about getting programming cables and parts

Well, I say its pseudo-private because its like one of the least popular UHF repeaters in the area so its pretty much the same 5 people on it.

I was toying with the idea of putting up a UHF repeater that uses a different PL for input as it does for output, using a non-standard offset and requiring a valid MDC ID to trip the repeater.

That's about as private as you're going to get...staying legal that is.

It's not too private. For those who can't do PL (CTCSS) splits on their radios, they could just monitor on open squelch, and TX on your tone.

I'd use DPL on the in and PL on the out. Still legal from what I understand... Heck, there's only 200 DPL tones, but only 38 PL tones.

Well, you can use any means possible to limit access to a repeater except encryption of course.

Apparently, the closest thing to a 100% private repeater in this area is a P25 repeater. Yes ExKa, I know your drooling

Project 25 or P25 is a digital 2-way radio protocol that was designed first for law enforcement, but is also slowly being adopted by amateur radio operates and LMR systems.
