I would personally like to meet these people praying for George Bush. http://www.washing...2006091201594.html

On second thought, maybe not.

I serve as a blank screen on which people of vastly different political stripes project their views.

Love him or hate him, he did get elected. . . . twice (scary).
I think Bush is probably right on this account (scarier).
The US and parts of the West are in the middle of a religious revival.
9/11 and growing fanaticism among the Islamic community are pushing many to think about and gravitate back towards more traditional Western values - including religion.
Remembering what made a society great is not a bad thing - so long as it is done in context.

I know lots of people who pray for him, even though they don't particularly like him. He is the President of the United States, and he does make a lot of decisions that affect a whole lot of people. If somebody like that doesn't need a few prayers I don't know who does.

You both make valid points and I must say that it is good to see things from an American perspective. Up here, I have never heard anyone pray for any political leader or party. I know there are some people who do but it is certainly not as widespread as in the United States.

Really, I find that somewhat bizarre. But maybe that's because politics is part of my minor in university.

We do it because in the Bible it says you should submit yourself to the authorities to be governed, but also follow God's laws. We pray for them to do God's works, whether they know it or not. It's not praying that we keep the same administrations, just that the administrations do works that are good.

Wow, cool. My former church prayed for government leaders maybe twice a year. I'm impressed by the dedication of your church.
