This is my most frequently used car... and it takes me everywhere. Toyota Tercel, with Starlet turbo fender flares, Corolla GT-S fog lights, VW Rabbit GTi rims, 1.5 litre 12 valve, with cold air intake, celica injectors, celica throttle body, celica fuel pump, adjustable pressure regulator, 2" exhaust, eBay welfare coilover springs, '99 Tercel front bumper, tinted tallights/marker lights, Paseo dash w/white faced gauges, Porsche 944 rear swaybar, Corolla GT-S front swaybar, functional hood duct, stripped out interior, rear spoiler, Lancia air horns, and a nice loud stereo. It's a pretty fun little car.

Engine is currently out of it (at 480,000 it was burning more oil than gas), and I'm swapping in a Paseo 16 valve twin cam.

Thats pretty sweet.

Did you see that Pontiac G5 yet?

i got vanity plates with my 98 Cavalier... they were G0T 0HV as the car had the 2200 SFI OHV pushrod engine in it. When I bought my 05 Cobalt, I went to G0T D0HC as the car that 2.2L Ecotec in it... I just transferred them on to this car.

The G5 is the American version of the Pontiac Pursuit that Canada had since 05... my opinion is that Pontiac should've brought the pursuit name down here.

I find it strange that while Pontiac is supposed to be the "sports" division of GM, yet they won't offer the Cobalt SS/SC setup in the car. I'm thinking that GM brought that model down here to be a more entry level car at the Buick/Pontiac/GMC dealers we have now.

I've always been intrigued by strange Canada market cars, ever since I saw a Corsica that said "Tempest" on it with a Pontiac grille and Quebec plates on it at a motel when I was about 9. I was like "...the hell is this..."

Someone near me has a 65-ish Pontiac Beaumont as well, which is like a Chevy Malibu.

for mid year 07, there was talk on the cobaltss board of having the turbo ecotec out of the Solstice under the hood and calling it a G5 GTP... whether this materializes or not is up in the air... it would be neat if it did, but i'm not holding my breath.

The SS/SC is one scary little car... i hate to say it, but the engine is almost too much for the thing.

Those models are pretty cool... I have a bunch of 1:87 scale promo models from Volkswagen in the 60's from Germany. The convertible Beetles even have little people in them.

I love cool, unique cars, and I rarely ever finish anything I start. My '77 Caprice hasn't been on the road in 9 years and my driver, a '91 Olds Trofeo has been sitting for about 2 years now. Even my bike is apart.

Here's a question for you guys.. Should I fix up the Trofeo and keep driving it or look for another driver? On one hand, I still like the styling, it's unique, very comfortable, etc. On the other hand, it's got 180,000 miles, needs at least all the gaskets in the engine replaced, and all new front suspension parts. The body is decent. It's completely solid, but it's been hit before in a couple spots. The interior is pretty nice. I dunno. There's a local guy that said he'd buy it, since he has a complete engine and cradle already. I hate these kinda decisions.

A friend of mine, someone most of you here all know, lol, had the same van until recently.
That is awesome.

Dopeness, are those Firebird GTA rims? That car must have the smaller bolt pattern. My little brother has a black 89 Caprice we may try to put some Corvette Rally wheels on, if they won't fit, he's getting a set of 2wd truck Rallys, which are what I have to use on my Impala, 71-76 were big cars so they all had the 5" bolt circle.

If you really like the Trofeo, and have a personal connection to it, keep it. Those cars had a lot of cool little options if IIRC. Is it a 3.8? You may want to drop another crate engine in it and drive it if so, but if that guy gives you a good price considering what it needs, sell it, and put the cash toward a 9c1 Caprice for a daily driver...haha. I'd even look at a Buick Roadmaster if you want, those are cheap, and the ultimate sleeper, 94-up have the LT1 350. You can upgrade the suspension to Impala SS specs. They have a cool horn too...
We almost picked one up for 500 bucks here, a filthy 95 with 150K that was a trade-in to some dealer, we were going to clean it up and beat the bag out of it, but decided we had enough projects going on...haha


Thanks for the compliments Bandi, the 2 dark green Caprice promos were in the original boxes unopened for over 30 years, one was still wrapped in tissue and they smell like chemicals...haha The lime green one someone took apart and painted that color with a 2-tone interior, they actually did a nice job too.

Thanks guys. Yeah, the wheels are the 16x8" diamomdlaces from about an '88 GTA. The car does have the 4-3/4" pattern, which meant that it had the smaller brake package. After '79, I think, all the full-size cars went to 5". Now I've got 13" Wilwood brakes on it, so the wheels have to go. They looked a tad small on there anyway. I'll probably go with 18" or so in the same style.

Matt, what's the story on your B-body there? Heh, you can never really know what 'generation' a B-body is since they date back to the first Chevys.

I've thought about getting another Caprice, maybe a 9C1 for a driver. I decided I wanted to keep my '77 more unique to me. I've actually been wanting a wagon. Not like a big hooptie with wood on the sides, but something I can throw a lot of crap into. My favorite so far is the late '80s-early '90s Mercedes E class. All black, for sure. Lower it just a little with some AMG wheels and they're so hot.

That's a sweet E class. I'd go for something like that as well, I'm into Euro cars too. I was going to get a 1980s BMW E30 before I got my Blazer.

My B-body is a 74 Impala Sport Coupe. It's an odd roofline they only made for 74 and 75, it's a true hardtop and all the windows roll down. The 71-73 2-door Chevys were all hardtops, Custom Coupes with inverted back glass, and with a Sport Coupe then that had a more flat roofline, smaller quarter windows, and a flat back window. In 74 they started making the roofline that the plastic models I posted have, but introduced a new Sport Coupe with bigger quarter glass and a more formal roofline...they used it again for 75, but in 76 the government mandated against pillarless cars, so the Sport Coupe and Sedan got dropped I guess...74 is the only year out of the big Chevys that the Impala had it's own nose/header panel design too, 71-73 used a modified Caprice nose, 74 was like mine, then 75 and 76 Impalas used "hand-me-down" Caprice noses from the years before, it was really weird.

The color is Bright Green Metallic, which I've been told was only offered that year as a special order color or something. It looks kind of dull in the pic but in the sun it looks cool, it has gold metallic/metalflake in it. The interior is the same color throughout...haha
I'm thinking it's been gone over twice in it's life now, and it's definitely due for a restoration now. I have rust issues, the floors, mainly the drivers pan, need to be replaced, the trunk floor has pinholes starting here and there, and the quarters have Bondo and rust bubbles showing through now. I need to replace the tranny and exhaust system, the engine still runs strong but it's starting to burn oil (has 150K miles on it)...etc etc etc
I just have to get some money before that happens...I quit my job...haha
I really like the car, I've had it for 5 years and I don't think I'd ever sell it. I've gotten offers to buy it but refused. It's a super rare model/color and I know I'd probably not find another in New England just like this.

Don't rule out a 9c1 Caprice though if you find a nice one...they're an excellent value for the performance you get.

LOL, I actually do. Surprised you remember that. Then again, you and Kayin seemed pretty baffled by all the odd cars I kept pointing out. That was kind of on the beater end of the spectrum though. I'd want to find the nicest one I could afford. You don't want to have to start replacing various parts of those cars. They're rock-solid mechanically, but all the weird Bosch electronics get really expensive. The '94 and '95 had the twin-cam inline 3.2 6 cylinder, which is an awesome engine. Problem is, they had a funky hybrid drive by wire system. I'm currently driving a '96 E320 sedan with that engine and I want to drive it into a tree.

Matt: I'd REALLY like to see that '74 Coupe restored. It's an even more overlooked body style than mine. Sure, they're big and heavy, but ever car doesn't need to be a road racer. They can have class and style though. Especially the Sport Coupes. Also, one thing I really wish my car had was the roll-down quarter glass. I might see if I can build the mechanisms to do it, even though my car has door posts. My brother just picked up a '54 Chevy 2 door post, and it has roll-down quarter windows so maybe I'll look into that.

And the greenish primer is Glasurit's self-etching primer. I usually use DuPont Vari-Prime, but my buddy's shop uses Glasurit. Both of those are fantastic primers. I'd never put anything else over bare metal. I think it's similar to the green phosphate primers the military uses.

I'd like to restore it too...just need to get a job first...haha

I really think I need to go the route you have, but I dunno, I might make all the mechanical repairs first, then just make it into a driver and go from there. I definitely want to go all the way with it, there are barely any of these around anymore, even though they were a generally well built car. I guess there were so many of them, people didn't care, and drove them into the ground back in the 80s because they were gas guzzlers.

What I'd like to find is one of these Impalas with power windows, I just think the power quarter glass would be cool. They did make some of them.

Despite their lumbering appearance, those Chevys, and yours, can be made into pretty nice road cars, with the right mods. There was a guy online with a 75 BelAir, which was like a base model Chevy 4dr post sedan, and he made it into a rally car. LOL

Is that primer like an epoxy?

My parents first and only new car (until 2000) was a 1973 Chevrolet Caprice Spirit of America coupe. 400cid V8, floorshift auto, buckets, full instruments, white with red and blue accents, rally wheels, power everything. Unfortunately, being it was 1973, it was a lemon and they ended up trading it the same year for a 1973 Ford Gran Torino Sport (351W/auto/fastback)...

My grandfather had a 1977 Chevrolet Impala Custom coupe... again, 350 V8, 2bbl, auto. My uncle Ricky blew the engine up in Speculator NY coming home from Dayton OH one night. For those of you not from New York, or the Adirondacks, there is NOTHING IN OR AROUND Speculator for MILES... just trees and summer camps. Total desertion. So my father put another engine in it and my uncle Kerry blew that 350 up coming home from Maryland on I-87. So after the 3rd engine, my grandfather bought a new 83 Caprice sedan and sold the Impala to an assfuck up here that got drunk the second night he had it and wrapped it around a tree. Bastard.

Right now, I know where there is a 1974 Impala convertible with 1900 miles on it... it was purchased new and never driven. It's sitting in a garage in Moriah. The original owners have passed away and their daughter refuses to get rid of it. It just sits in the garage year after year for the past 34 years. It's been driven maybe 4 or 5 times in that 34 years. Again, Bastards!

I learned to drive on my moms' ex boyfriends 1976 Impala... a big old gray barge of a car, but it was in such beautiful shape. It was gray with a red interior, 350 4bbl... it drove like a Cadillac. Going down I-87 at 70mph was just like floating on air. If only they built cars like that today.

I'll never find an Impala or Caprice ever... bastards!
