The S.S.O. is a cousin to the C.S.O., instead, the S.S.O. is typically found in drains and along the rivers in older towns. The S.S.O. is a way to relieve over-flow during a storm or high-flow event. S.S.O.s can add interesting achetecture in drains, and if built correctly, give all the intersting sewer archetecture with none of the turdiness. A badly built overflow will turn a good drain into a full-blown sanitary sewer for a bit.

Please see C.S.O. for more information.
