As of tonight, Shutterbug and I are petless. The person who previously owned Billy (our cockatiel), came back for him. It turned out her son is not allergic to birds after all.

The reason we agreed to giving Billy back is because Billy always responded better to her than he did to us. She really loves that bird and we didn't have the heart to say, "Screw you! He's ours now!" Also, her dog is sick and it is possible he has cancer. Damned shame. Her dog is a very nice pooch. Thankfully, Billy is returning to a good home (from another good home), but we're gonna miss the little bugger. The house is pretty too quiet and the place where Billy's cage was is too empty and large. I didn't say much because while she was happy to get Billy back, she felt guilty.

She plans to breed him and has offered us one of the babies if all goes well (we accepted) so we're keeping our fingers crossed! Also, she doesn't live too far from us so we can go over anytime to visit him. That makes it easier to let him go.

In the meantime, we plan to be getting a couple of budgies. We've had them before and they are a riot! If we don't get them next month, then we will be getting them in the spring.

Hope I didn't sound like a long winded whiner there.

At least you know he went to a good home.

I do some dog fostering from time to time, it's always sad when they go.

I know how you feel. I lost a cockatiel to a forgetful father. He forgot the bird was on his shoulder and walked outside. We tracked him for 3 days, and then lost him. But hey, at least you can still visit!

Thanks for the kind words SaraBellum and Tyralus.

House is still too quiet and I miss the little bugger but I know giving Billy back was the best thing for him.

Shutterbug was over visiting (the owner is her sister) and she mentioned Billy was very active (talking, whistling and dancing).

He seems much happier and we are looking forward to getting one of the babies if he is bred. Also, when we have a chance, we will be getting a couple of budgies.

I think you did the right thing; many birds tend to bond for life.

Nothing like home.

I considered getting a parrot for a long time. They are impressive creatures, but they require a huge commitment and have a very long life span. I'm content for now to fed and watch the crows, characters that they are.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

Thank you.

I now know we did the right thing. I saw him tonight and is he ever a happy camper. He got a new cage built for him and the little bugger was having a lot of fun! (branches to climb in and more!) He recognized and greeted me. He is very happy!
