I am slightly amused at the moment. I have been reading some other boards where the topic keeps drifting towards hauntings and with out fail the Ouija boards always seems to make an appearance.

I have had my own experiences with them and my own opinions but I wanted to know what some of you think...

my mom's mom until she died was always fascinated by death, occult, anything related to it. her mom was also into ouji boards, and one day my mom came into the room where her mom was sitting and the ouji board was levitating in the air, it scared the crap out of her.

ouji boards are definitely interesting, I wonder what I would get if I tried using one?

I have an old Ouija board from the 60s that I found at a thrift store. I've never used it before. Maybe I'll bring it the next time I go exploring, see what happens.

I've used one before, though I kinda gave it up since becoming a preacher. They're interesting, but not as dramatic as some of the wild stories out there might lead you to believe.

ive never used one before. im just extremely skeptical of them. it seems like a board game mass produced by the same company that makes "Candy Land" wouldnt have a whole lot of spiritual power.

I don't believe that some stories need to be so dramatic but I do strongly believe that there is some validity to some of the things that happen.

I believe to some existent it is how much spiritual power you give it. However, demonic things use unwilling and strange thins all the time.

I just remembered this! When I was in high school, my best friend and I decided to take a Ouija board out to a cemetary and play with it. We set it up and asked it a few questions with no response, so we decided to move to another section. As I was walking up to another part of the cemetary, I slipped and sprained my ankle, complete with that delightful "POP!" sound that happens when things in your body go awry. We took it as a sign and left.

Well, they were mass produced by Parker Bros., but the William Fuld design that they used had been around for quite awhile. Parker just bought the rights to it. Spiritualists had been getting similar results with nothing more than letters on pieces of paper arranged on a glass table, using an upside down wine glass as a planchette.

Who knows what powers the Ouija board. I kinda feel like the negative things that are said about it come from religious fundamentalists who lump it into a group with divination (which I guess it is) and witchcraft.

The dangers come from people getting addicted to it and also in believing what the board tells them. If spirits really are communicating, who's to say they're telling you the truth about anything?

Same here. A buddy of mine had one and showed it to me. I had very bad vibes off of it and told him straight out that unless he puts it away, I'm leaving. He laughed at me and put it away.

A few months later, I asked him if he still had it. His eyes got a haunted look and he told me he got rid of it. I asked why and he snapped "I got rid of it." The look on his face discouraged me from asking any further.

A couple of years after that, I was talking with someone who is a medium. I told him about the incident and he told me he would not have anything to do with them. He sounded very relieved when I told him my friend got rid of the board and said that was the biggest favour my friend had ever done for himself.

used one once with some friends,,,,i felt odd all of a sudden then the guy opposite me suddenly sucked in air like he had been punched and had asthma attack....no one else thought anything about it...we did
used one another time, thread is somewhere on these boards....
i have found it has more to do with the ppl involved than the board, but get the right ppl and the board can be surprisingly effective.....the results can be though that non present energies are called forth and then remain , and u can be stuck with them...and frequently the negative energies jump at the opportunity, or so i have been told..also by a medium

I saw one at an antiques flea market today. I had noticed it on a table as I passed by, and avoided that booth altogether. While I was standing in the booth one over, eyeballing some old railroad memorabilia, i noticed that a woman had opened the box to show her friend. The board was old, probably from the late 60's, and just the site of it gave me chills up and down. "How does it work?" her friend asked. I wasn't around to hear the answer. I left the market right then and there. They are evil devices and as far as I see them, VERY dangerous. I'm all for divination, and trying to communicate with the beyond, but there are controlled tools with which to do so, and that is not one of them.

I played with one of these extensively in college.
My best friend and I went to Ames department store, which was still open at the time in Saranac Lake and put down 30 bucks late one Sunday evening and started playing with it.
Well, some of the things that plagued us after we started weren't exactly pleasant...
We were, well, I don't know if you can call it privileged or not, but we were able to speak to a spirit by the name of NK, he wouldn't give us the rest of his name, he'd just tell us he was a resident of Hell and a good friend of Janis Joplin.
I thought for the longest time that my friend was just screwing with me, for a year I thought she was. I wrote down some of the things that he told us...the first, and this was supposed to be "proof" of him and the board being real...he told us that my friend's father was in the hospital, he actually was, NK also told us he'd had a stroke, which he had, all before my friend's mother had called to tell her what happened. When this happened, I thought it was just her paranoia, she was homesick and didn't want to be away from her mother for long periods of time, we were about 300 miles north of her home in Syracuse.
The paranoia excuse held, until the fire.
About a year after I left school because of illness, the dormitory I lived in burned down. The fire started in my old room and spread throughout the building.
Whenever I tell this story people think I'm crazy, but I have a notebook where I wrote down everything NK told us, just in case. He predicted the date, the source of the fire and where it would start, down to the electrical outlet it started in.
So, take it for what you will, call me crazy if you like, but there's got to be something to it.

Interesting stories,here!

Years ago my sister and I made one and I can't recall the details too much, but we did get freaked out so I wouldn't touch one again for the longest time.

Since then, having used tarot cards,a pendulum, candle magic, spellwork and various yes/no divination techniques,I decided to try it again, alone this time. I agree that Ouija boards and such have much more to do with the spiritual energy you put into it,rather than the item itself (which is how many, many simple household items can be used for spellwork when consecrated for it's use.)

Nevertheless, though I feel that homemade boards are much better for that reason,I did buy one first, and it's displayed in my room on my altar. I keep sea salt, crystals and a consecrated candle on it so that it retains the positive energy that I put into it.

Anyway...I wasn't personally over impressed with the results of the two or three times I've tried it. I'm still not sure whether the planchette moves in response to one's subconsciousness or something else, but like many things,I agree that it could be used as a portal to something not-so-nice,but then so could a piece of paper and pencil when done with intent. I dunno....

I should check through my notes again to see what I got as it's been quite a while, but I've found tarot cards to be eerily effective so I prefer those. Though I'm still learning about them,I by far find them to be a better divination tool, when cared for properly.

when i was in middle school, my friend and i would use the ouija board every day. if we forgot it at home, we would just make one out of paper. we could use anything as a board, it would always, always work. we used to put a pen through the hole of the pointer and have it draw pictures of what they looked like. we had a few people we would always talk to. vanessa was really mean. dyke was in love with my friend and said he came into our rooms at night. my sister couldn't sleep all summer. she was probably still in elementary school.
when we were older, we took it to a cemetery. it was dead. it would not work. and we can always get it to work. once we drove out of the cemetery and parked and it just said "hahahahahahahah"
another time, we were playing with some of her friends. one girl's neighbor had just died and when we asked who was speaking with us it spelled barbara. that was her neighbors name, but she didnt have her hands on the board. we asked questions that my friend and i didnt know the answers to, like, what sport did her granddaughter play. she answered them all correctly.
my father and his friend were playing when they were younger and his friends grandma died in the upstairs apartment while they were playing. he wont go near one.

i believe in spirit boards.

I went back through my stuff recently. I used to keep notes of what NK said...and it's eerie. Most of what he said is two years off the mark. The fire, someone else I met before Samurai, all of it.
I completely forgot about a part that I should have remembered.
I've been seeing Sam for about a year now, and it didn't register until earlier tonight when I finally went through my notebooks that I lost and somehow, they just recently turned up. Interesting how that happens sometimes isn't it?
NK predicted someone coming into my life, someone I can only guess is Samurai, he was two years off...but he got the initials right. All three of them and the first name. I'll leave the rest of it out since it's pretty inconsequential, but somehow, NK got it right. I had guessed that it was another guy with the same name, but I was wrong, way off the mark. NK always refused to tell me anything major about this person, all he'd say is "SDH". None of it registered until very recently, like 3 hours ago.
I've always been a objective observer...but after the fire and this, I honestly can't be anymore. There has got to be something to it.
Also, NK would be known to tell us bullshit stories. Quite a few of them, but there were quite a few things he told us that were right, the fire among them.
It's just I'm sitting here staring at my notebook...and it's freaky. I haven't used one since the last time I was with Erin, 15 years ago. I won't use one and Erin burned the one we had because I sure as hell wasn't going to keep it, not after her father's stroke. I wish I knew why I kept playing with it and I wonder why I never asked him any big questions...for anything big and important that people might want to know about beforehand, like disasters or whatever. He'd answer appropriate questions, like world events, etc. He just wouldn't answer personal questions or he'd be very vague and esoteric about them. I think he just wanted company.
NK said that his time "in the board" was penance for the bastard he was when he was on Earth. Well, all I can say is maybe he'll finally get out of hell and at least into purgatory or something. He taught me a lesson that took a long time for me to learn and one I'm better for learning. The grass is nowhere greener than in your own back yard. The funny thing...I think he told me something I knew all along, but it didn't register in high school and it didn't register fifteen years ago, although I wish it had, maybe I wouldn't have spent 15 years looking for something that was there all along.
