Well Atomx and I have a new puppy.

Her name is Sugar. She is a boxer pup (5 months old) from South Dakota.

She's very good.. but 'potty training is an issue right now. She seems to want to 'hold it' until we are in the house.

I caught her in the act this morning, and told her a VERY stern 'NO' and took her outside very quickly... I made it

Anybody have any tips?? And no, she will not pee or poop in her crate.

Ask SaraBellum. She's a dog person, should be able to give tons of advice and cooing at the cute puppy.

Congrats and she is really cute.
Start with being consistent. Try to take her out at the same time so she gets the idea and praise her when she goes in the right place. Also, for her not peeing or pooping in her crate, that is an instinct for puppies. They will not usually mess where they sleep as the odour can attract predators. Mommy deals with the waste disposal which is why she seems to 'hold it' until you are in the house.

Also, there's a product called "Chomp". That is pet safe and will neutralize the odour of where she went. Puppies will search out their own urine/feces smell (after the cleanup is done) figuring that is the proper spot to go. Use the Chomp immediately after the clean up and the smell should be gone. It is available at Canadian Tire ($10 a bottle but worth it). Poppy had a few accidents in the month we've had her and this stuff seems to be helping as she is doing great in the washroom department. Her accidents were from over excitement or us not catching her signal until it's too late. We've been using the Chomp full strength but it can be used diluted. I don't know if it is effective diluted as we didn't try that.

Another trick that our mentor (Shutterbug's sister) used when house breaking her puppy was taking some newspaper, put a bit of ammonia on it and then placing it closer and closer to the door until it was eventually out the door. This trick worked beautifully for her so maybe it will work for you. Ammonia is the smell of pee so don't use any ammonia based products for cleanup.

Good luck and I hope this is of help!

Congratulations! She's a cutie.

Otherwise, yeah, what Rainman said.

I'm not feeling like very much of a dog expert of late. Gordon has started to poop in the house. We take all the dogs out at least every two or three hours. I don't understand.

Maybe Gordon's sick or stressed out about something?

I will say, having a dog is very rewarding and very humbling at the same time. Hang in there SaraBellum. With tons of patience, this will pass.
