Hey all,

As 2006 ends, lets make a list of success stories for the year in Durham ue...these can include important finds, salvage or preservation successes, etc. Lets also make a list of sad and bad things that have happened such as demolished buildings, lost histories, persecutions, etc.

The Good:
The David Towns homestead find & identification. Good job Fedge & Otonabee.

The Bad & Ugly:
The loss of Southview Villa & Trull Manor...man I almost cried when I saw these gone. Bastards. And the only relic of either that I am aware of is the corbel the girl from Courtice scored. Ugh.

What is your good, bad & ugly?

In addition to the loss of Southview Villa and Tryll Manor, the sudden demo of the Gaud House (NE corner Conc 3/57, Indi and I visited shortly before it vanished) and the house at NW corner of Freeland/Liberty. Yet, oddly enough, the Courtice Doll House and the Danger! Keep Out houses still stand.

There's not much left in Durham Region.

The final destruction of Whitby Psych and the fire at Ringwood Manor.

I passed through Whitby on Monday night. It looked like there may be a new roof on Ringwood Manor (I was driving and did not get a good look).

The next time I'm out there I'll try to be out during the day to get a proper look. Hopefully I wasn't imagining this. <keeping fingers crossed>

Exactly the same for me: Psych and Ringwood... but more the Psych... I loved that place...

Sad to say but the Ringwood Manor does not have a new roof. I drive past it everyday on the 401 and it is still in bad shape. All that has been done recently is the top three windows on the front were boarded up.

I'd love to find out more info on Ringwood but without tipping our identities to who we'd have to ask...

What is the name of the electrical company that purchased it?
