I'm hoping some of the people who ARE Christian who read this will give me their take on it as well. I'm curious to see responses to this article.

Lapin makes some very good points, but his argument is scattershot and very unfocused.
It is hard to argue with his central contentions but the evidence he uses to support these is spurious.
There's a lot of truth in here but just as much conspiracy theory.

I'd much rather stick with the issue of Islam as a threat to our nation, our culture, and to civilization in general.

I agree with it. I don't think there's really any anti-Christian conspiracy, though. I think there's just a LOT of liberal elites who personally hate and want to bury Christianity.

I agree, that there probably isn't a conspiracy, just a chain of events that led to one another, which is slowly killing Christianity. I'm sure I'm not the only one who sees those certain liberals, (not all of them) who think it's alright to believe whatever you want, unless it has anything to do with Jesus.

I think the biggest recent blow to Christianity, of recent years, has been our nation electing a president to office, who keeps making mistakes, and then giving god all the credit.

Remember, Jesus loves you, but he hates George Bush.

Damn right you're not.

That would be the liberals that think Buddhism, Islam, and all the New Age bullshit religions add culture and diversity, but will go on a screaming fit about "fascist Christianity."

It's nice to know I'm not crazy when I think that. I've talked with people who say I'm just seeing it that way because I AM a Christian and I'm defensive. but really every religion is put down the same way.

It's getting almost scary to be Christian these days. especially if you're someone like me. Someone who says grace in restaurants, tells people that they'll pray for them (For their problems, not 'I'll pray for you cause you're going to hell' more like 'your sister was in a car accident? I'll pray she recovers.') and won't just be 'privately' Christian.

If I was still a Christian, I wouldn't do stuff like that. I know you're supposed to as a Christian, but I wouldn't.

I mean, you tell people you're a Buddhist and they think it's cute. You tell them you're a Pentecostal or something and suddenly everybody's uncomfortable.

You're not suggesting that Buddhism is a New Age bullshit religion, are you?

Nope. Although I do think Buddhism is complete bullshit (and trendy bullshit, judging by all the "Buddhists" on this forum), I was not referring to it when I said New Age bullshit religions.

I can understand why a lot of people would be pissed off at the Christian right, particularly when one looks at the policy Republican's and the associated parties (i.e. Christian right) responsible for shaping those policies. Quite frankly, every time I see a picture of or hear James Dobson I have to shake my head.

With that said, the people writing these books are taking a page from the books of the people that they so badly hate.

Fair enough. Why is Buddhism bullshit?

Well, firstly, I wasn't trying to single out Buddhism above any others. I think all religion is more or less bullshit. (Although, I have to admit, some religions like Scientology are MUCH more full of bullshit than others.)

In a nutshell, though, I think Buddhism is self-centered, feel-good nonsense. It's one part common sense, one part narcissism, and one part bullshit. Not being obsessed with material things is common sense. Wrapping it up in a bunch of mystical bullshit and telling someone they're reaching enlightenment by realizing that is silly. And people, being the self-involved creatures that we are, want to believe they've somehow attained some state of being above everyone else. But they haven't. It's just not true.

I'll venture here that Buddhism is more philosophy than religion.

To that end, I'd venture that many of Christ's teachings are drawn from Buddhist philosophy.

Whatever. We'll know only after we're dead. And then it'll be too late to kiss God's ass.

See you in Hell, White Rabbit. You might recognize me: I'm the one stoking the fires with the tormented souls of unbelievers.

Journeylady, I think it's an interesting article that expresses a very real bias which is growing by leaps and bounds.
