when i got back to school i noticed that all my upload and downloaded torrents were seeding extremely slow and downloading extremely slow, slower than a kb/s...

I use azeurus and am on a school network, anyone know what could be the problem?

Your school's network may have a Packet Shaper on it which is limiting bandwidth to certain ports (or blanking out completely) certain ports.

I know that Sheridan (my workplace) has such a system, and does limit the ports Torrents use on academic subnets but not on admin, so my speeds are fine.

yeah, I'm guessing packet shaper.

You'll need to identify which ports have their bandwidth limited. Chances are good that port 80 would have the most bandwidth alloted to it.

have to agree with you on that one axle, i work in a place where budgets are tight and we use what we can. our firewall IP COP lets me throttle down certain ports to stop bandwidth waste, this seems like what it may just be

well, since you can't really do much to the network, you need to go back and do things like they did in the nineties, optimize the software, not the hardware.

Try this, my torrent speeds jumped at home when i did this, so it may help you a little there. definitely try to use a port above 10,000. Ports 6881-6889 are definite no-no.

uh, the configuration utility i believe. Um, I would try to use utorrent, much more optimizable and heres a good guide for optimizing it: http://www.johntp....peeds-of-utorrent/
Trust me, I just made the switch last month, and my download speeds are much higher, plus, it's less of a system resource hog.

Probably makes some sense as 80 isn't usually blocked because it is used by internet programs.
