I will be putting together an OPEX (or Similar OPEX-like) event in WNY this year. I am aiming for Early-Summer 2007.

I am hoping the people on this forum will be able to help me with it, as local explorers.

please speak up if you can help, I already know Geo will help.

I can't really help considering I am without car and in another country, but if you do this I will come.

Good luck!

What kind of help are you looking for?

Well, I would need some people to help do research over the internet and in person on various locations. I would need people to help promote the event, and I would need people to actually assist with the event itself.

Also we will be having "classes" and presentations, I will need people to do papers for that.

I would like about 4 or 5 local explorers who are able to lead groups ranging in size from 5 people to 15 people to various locations on their own. These leaders would be expected to know the locations they are showing.

For anyone who hasn't been to an OPEC event before, basically its atleast a few days long. We will be running people thru locations and cycling people through these locations in a safe manner. We will have a central meeting place for each day.

I want to have a UE Movie night aswell, where the whole group gets together to watch UE Related movies. or perhaps just have a party night with music and such, since movie nights are getting old...

I also want to have (like i mentioned above) a small conference, where we talk about the hobby and share our stories and expierances.

I was also thinking of calling it the "Industrial Archaeology Convention" or IAC. Since that is kinda what most of us do.

---

Personally... the REAL "OPEX" Died when Ninj died. OPEX will never be the same without Ninj.

Ninj and I have very similar views in that regards. Both of us dislike elitest attitudes in the UE Community. This is a community where we get together to share our expierances in the amazing hobby of UE. I don't think anyone needs to see people bragging about how they can ninja their way into buildings and putting everyone down, suggesting that if they can't do that, they aren't worthy explorers. No this is not what I want to see in the UE Community. I want to promote this hoby to anyone and everyone who will find it interesting.

So basically the buffalo 'OPEX-esque' event will be a event put together by us local explorers, and will be run for the benifit of the hobby itself... not for the benifit of a specific website or group of explorers.

I dunno, I might be able to help out a bit with something. It is a big if, because I don't know if I will be around during the summer. And if I am here, I don't know if I will have any free time O.o

There were a few demos done, as I recall.

Here are a couple good write-ups of the first event:
