Ever been forced into rehab? My dad's trying to save up funds to send me to one of these places:

http://www.reason....s/show/117088.html

For pot, acid, and shrooms. I'm so pissed about it. I know a kid who got sent there, but he ran away and is now living on his own selling drugs to people (he's still 17 . . . lives with an 18-year-old).

Then lay off the shit and be a responsible kid for a while. Drugs are great, but you have to know when to limit yourself and focus on what's important in life. School mainly, not so much learning, but getting through it without looking like a dipshit.

That article brings up some good points, but it doesn't look too legit (no links, sources, nada) and it's got that tabloid magazine feel to it.

It's Reason Magazine. It was rated in the top 50 best magazines (#15 - one place below Time Magazine and ten above National Review). Hardly a tabloid

Anyway, if it wasn't this it would be something else with him. I don't plan to cease and desist - I wouldn't be the same person I am today if it wasn't for "dope" (and especially the psychedelics). I'm more trying to show what a narrow-minded douchebag my dad is (yes I'm being a bitchy adolescent and some people have it worse than me - sue me ). Whenever I try to argue with him logically ("dad, the three only major studies done on LSD and psychosis found NO correlation") he brilliantly reasons that he doesn't need my "pretentious intellectual bullshit" (he pronounces "bullshit" as "bohshit" . . . fucking drunk). That, and besides bitching I'm curious if anybody else has been forced into a "tough love" rehabilitation camp for "troubled youth".

Oh by the way kublakhan, he can't stand you: I showed him one of your posts where you said something like "are you a grad student fucking with us" and for the next week he was like "you think you're such a good writer but you know people tell you you are and shit but you aren't that good really, you need to take your ego down a few notches"; he even mentioned you "I know that kublakan guy told you you could write but don't let it get to your head" - I'm no braggart; I'll just show dad things I've written, not to say "hey look at this dad bet you couldn't write like this in 9th grade" (dad was in Special Ed, misplaced however), but just to say "here's what I think about x", only in writing because I can't argue politics with him (he's way too stupid and narrowminded - I can't get a word out; he almost kicked me out of the house for arguing pro-choice).

Ugh what a rant. Sorry I'm VERY pissed off and a little buzzed.

Edit: and by the way, fuck school; it has taught me little or nothing I find useful. I know all of the bullshit about how you need college to get work; we'll see I guess. And now I'm gonna get flamed for being unrealistic . . . or at least I would if this was in "Other" glad I'm on a private board.

His house his rules. His responsibilities are carried out by his rules. His kids, his responsibilities. Technically, to be honest, you, me, any minor are the same. We are nobody. Don't say the drugs make you are who you are today because you are nobody right now. And all those who say that drugs make them a better person are full of bullshit. Drugs just make you feel better for the moment, push everyone worth knowing away from you, and ruin your financial capabilities. As a member of this society that has currently has no right to vote, you technically have no choice in the matter. Once you turn 18, you can turn around and do whatever you want to, but thats later. Right now your priorities are graduating high school, and getting the hell out of your parents lives. After that, take all the drugs you can, but right now, you have to life with your parents, not like them or agree with them, don't give them shit or prove them that you are right (you may be, you may not be).

Hehe . . . methinks the young one needs some blotter before he makes such sweeping statements. Saying drugs have no impact on who you are because they make you feel good for a moment (bad trip anyone?) is like saying going to college doesn't teach you anything because all you do is sit in a room all day. True much of college is sitting in rooms but there's a lot more to it than that, and there's a lot more to drugs than feeling good. Hell the most enlightening trip I ever had was horrific.

I would lay off for a bit....get on good terms with your dad and such for a while and keep using on the DL for a while....I really wouldnt suggest breaking your relationship with your family just to do drugs at the moment...Family is more important than drugs as corney as it sounds its true. You are only in 9th grade, inf a year or two you will realize that you were a jackass in 9th grade, its not just you its the entire class of 9th graders each year. I came to that conclusion about myself and i think you will too when you are older.

I would just lay off drugs for a while, just enough so that your dad trusts you again etc...

thats just my opinion of the situation.

Yeah I'd agree. I already am cutting back. Of course the only negative effect so far is my dad's reaction. But yeah, cuttin back is the most rational thing to do at the moment. He'll probably calm down once I'm a little older. Until then I'll just sneak joints at the busstop/late at night, only trip when he's at work, and in general be less sketchy.

His house his rules.

Werd. I know. It sucks.

High school is (generally) a large bureaucratic filing cabinet where we send bright young minds for a few years so that we (parents) can build some equity in order to send you to university/college. It may be a waste of time, but it's cost effective.

If you're doing the work, getting okay grades, keeping out of shit, then you're doing your job. If you're fucking up, cutting class (more than your should), telling your babysitter...er, teachers to fuck off, etc. then you're not doing your job.

High school is an easy gig. There's not a lot that's expected of you, other than to show up, do the drills, etc. pass and get the hell out to make room for Horus number 1960. In this respect, you are no more original than the other 1959 kids who have passed through the halls of Horus High.

But I'd argue that you are a somebody, rather than a nobody. If this forum is any real indication of who you are, your future as an intelligent and productive (whatever that means) member of society blah blah blah is assured, provided you understand the general rules, and follow them within a degree of...whatever. Playing ball doesn't always mean following the rules To The Letter. But playing within certain limits is what makes a good player.

Horus, your father may be off the mark re: rehab. I don't know the exact specifics of your household...rather HIS household. But if he's bent on sending you to some fixerup shop, take heed: these places turn more casual users into die-hard addicts than the professionals who run then care to admit.

Do you really want to be locked into a small space with seasoned crackheads? These people are filthy bummers who will fuck you up forever.

Take a bit of advice from someone who was pretty much in the same pair of shoes you're wearing now: lay off the weed/cid/shrooms for the time being. Or at least be more cautious in making these choices. You're young and bright (and you write well...trust me: I'm a total professional in this field...I do this for a living and I do very well, thanks). LSD is fantastic, but it has the potential to fuck up your chromosomes, which could be very bad news for future Horuses. Weed might make your head all gluey and slow, and shrooms...well. Frankly, there's not a lot of bad things I can say about these. Other than that if you do too many, you turn blue, and looking like a Smurf whilst chilling with people who are tripping makes for interesting conversation. You've been warned.

You have three/four years left as a high school student. Play safe, live by the old man's rules, and get out alive.

Sincerely,

KublaKhan

PS. Tell your old man I said HIGH.

I'm pretty much going to back up Kubla here in that rehab is not where you want to be. As he states, you will meet people there that you don't need in your life. You don't need to know how to cook crack, but after a few weeks with these melt downs, you will know every trick of the trade.

High school is a breeze, pretty much the easiest thing you will ever do. Take advantage of that. Mellow out just a tad with getting high, at least enough not to earn The Wrath Of Dad, and skip the tough love intervention. We would all like to see Horus the badass college freshman one day, not Horus the 3rd time loser rehab expert.

Finally, you do write well. I write training manuals as part of my job, and you sir, have command of the language. All the more reason not to give them reason to put you in rehab where they can "medicate" you "for your own good."

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

life is simple.

you know, i could lecture on how drugs will hurt you in the long run, or cause other problems, but I'm not a public service announcement. It's just in my experience, drugs have taken more of my friends down than any other thing.

ease off of them and evaluate your life... this isn't the 1960's as much as you want them to be and whether its right or wrong, the shit is illegal.

You can NOT blame the drugs for someone's downfall.

Absolutely not.

Believe it or not, there are some people out there that can use drugs responsibly.

The general population is simply far too weak-minded to be able to handle and use drugs responsibly. Used wisely, they will be enjoyable, possibly even mind-opening. Used stupidly, and they can destroy you.

An example: I have a friend, who likes meth. Yes, meth. He does it twice a month on average because he enjoys it. (I am NOT condoning the use of meth in any way!!!! Frankly it's a nasty drug that should be avoided. I'm no fan of stimulants anyways) He does it twice a month, maybe three, to no ill effect. He still brushes his teeth, he still bathes and washes his clothes, he still eats and drinks, he still pays his rent... One could say he is an addict, and one could not. Whether addicted or not, he still in Control. Unfortunately he is not a shining example of what most people are like in our society.

That's what its about. People who get addicted to drugs, or ruin their lives, it's because they stop caring about everything else. Everything will start to revolve around the drug. They let it become a part of them. Everything else stops mattering - they want to be high, all the time.

They are simply too weak to handle it.

Some drugs can even help you learn more about yourself and your surroundings. This isnt the "drugs talking", or some drug induced delusion. Take a hit or two of acid, and you will be surprised at what you might discover. I am not saying you need acid, or any other hallucinogen to enjoy properly enjoy yourself, or life. But used responsibly, they can alter the way you view the entire world.

For better, or for worse.
