I've been on a HUGE Rush binge today... I broke a couple of things in my lab today while air drumming 2112... What is it about this band that either inspires cult-like followings or abject hatred?

You know you're a fan when you can name every Rush album without thinking about it...

Oh and the other band I've been listening to a lot of lately is "Queensryche"... not sure how many of you out there remember them or listen to them... I've been a big fan since 'Rage For Order'.

and this album was just phenomenal:

Anyways, any Rush fans out there? Favorite songs/Albums... and don't say all of them... that's too easy.

While I wish I was a more dedicated Rush fan, I'm not. I think they are great, but my short attention span lead me away from their music. My favorite album is Moving Pictures, because it has all the hits (see I'm not a good fan); my favorite song is "Subdivisions," it may be my favorite song of all time by anyone, in fact. So much truth in it as to be incredible. The suburbs have no charms to soothe the restless dreams of youth. Please, God, thank you for that.

Subdivisions appeared on "Signals", the album after "moving pictures". Honestly, Signals is probably in the top 3 of my favorite Rush albums. It epitomizes almost everything about growing of age in the 1980's, especially for the kids that were older than me.

I think the love em or hate em deal with Rush has to do with Geddy Lee's voice.Despite it being patriotic to love The Tragically Hip,I can't get past Gord's voice,ick.

Rush on the other hand,I LOVE. 2112,for one is an amazing album.Lakeside Park (written about a place in St.Catharine's Ontario) and Closer To The Heart are among my favourite songs,though. Battlescar too.And Tom Sawyer too.

I have to say that I was disappointed at their concert,they only played a handful of their old stuff. It seemed like everyone was waiting for them to get to it,but it didn't happen.I'd go again,though,I've heard that they usually play lots of it.

I was never a huge Rush fan, but I always liked their style just for being different. I saw them once, I think it was on the "Exit" tour. As for fave songs, I have to go with Limelight. Lifeson is too advanced for me to try and learn much of his stuff on guitar, but that one song man.....I worked on it for weeks, and I have been playing it proudly for years.

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

Rush does seem to be a musician's band, dudes who play guitar or drums usually worship at Alex and Neil's alters. I don't play, but I do think both rock, however I think Peart gets too many ups. Stewart Copeland did what Peart did years before and isn't recognized as the greatest drummer of all time. I like Geddy Lee's lyrics, they are thought-provoking, but when he tries to be too "pop" he loses me.

everyone I know who plays guitar thinks that Rush is useless wank. And suggesting that people who play instruments have better taste in music is just wrong. I knew a very very talented multi instrumentalist who's favourite bands were, Limp Bizkit, Puddle of Mudd and Good Charlotte.
The Hip are solid, thanks.

I never knew who Rush were until my father was given an album (Grace Under Pressure) for Christmas one year by his brother. He hated it and gave it to me. I was hooked. Distant Early Warning, Red Sector A, Red Lenses, Between The Wheels, The Body Electric... there wasn't a bad song on the platter. I wore that album out... I went on to have every Rush album, ever bootleg, I have a bootleg of the opener for the "Test For Echo" tour down in Albany in 1996... I looked over at my buddy Joe and said, "I can die happy now." I was 11 rows back, dead center... awesome seats!

Peart = GOD
Lifeson= GOD
Lee= GOD...

let there be no dispute on that.

I was never a Rush fan. Yet, in my younger days I loved Dream Theater and King's X..of course, their influence was Rush. I was always bothered by Geddy's voice. However, now in his later years, for some reason I can tolerate his voice better.. Don't hate me, I'm just sayin'

Amen brother. Grace is one of my favorite Rush albums. 2112, power windows, moving pictures ... man, you think you can narrow it down, but shit, who am I kidding.

"I see red ..." <---- dude, that song has some sick tightness, what a great groove.

The Body Electric is probably my favorite song off of that album. it's very simple, fairly short for that album, but you see it very clearly.

Power Windows is one of those Rush albums that came in under the radar, but had some of the best songs on it. "Manhattan Project", "Middletown Dreams"... great stuff.
