I plan on growing a few plants for shits and gigs mainly and basically, If anything ever comes out of it, maybe sell some. I don't plan on using hydro or anything but I was just wondering if someone could point me towards a good growing 101 resource or lend any hints, etc.

sure thing, brother.
i think between myself, HH, and a couple other folks in here...we can probably get you the best yield possible from whatever genetics you've got. lol.

Horus had the first question nailed. In or out?

IMO if one chooses indoor, the first concern and most important item is the light. If outdoor, a whole basket of other concerns pop up (e.g. area, security, animals, camo)

Yeah outdoors is the only thing I have any experience (and my seeds aren't even in the ground yet, though a few of my friends grow small patches). With outdoor grows it's all about location.

Indoors probably. Although if those fail, I'll try out doors.

They might not. I have yet to find out. As for grow lights, what kind, how cheap, and how long do they have to be on.

Depends on how many yer doin'. I'd go with a CFL, get one 2400k and one 6000k (for vegging and flowering); I think you'll want like 400w if you're only doing one or two. You can get them at Wal-Mart and they plug-in anywhere (unlike HPS/MH lights which need special ballasts etc.)

The only issue that I've experienced with CFL setups is that the light intensity was not what i needed it to be at all. The girls started stretching and thinning out, so i had to go back to HPS to keep my yields up.

But i can't totally discount the CFL method, i know a few people who have made quite a formidable garden with them...i just haven't been able to reproduce the results.

If your only growing for personal, i would say get a 400W HPS, do a sea of green setup using a wick system, and use a floro array to germinate seed stock or root clones. i've had that particular setup work fairly well in a 2'x4' closet space.

Folks, My personal experience is with plain old fluorescent light bulbs. I normally put one 50W actual grow lamp at the top, pointing down onto the plant. With standard fluorescents, you have to keep the light close, say within 4 inches. However, they use very little electricity, which is one way the cops keep tabs on growers. Plus these are easy to get and don't look the least bit suspicious when you walk out of the store with 6 lights.

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.
