Should PJP II be a Saint?

PJP is apparently on the fast track for sainthood despite committing far more harm than good in his years with the pointy hat. Does anyone think that he deserves to be a saint, or even if the age of miracles has passed on?

Does anyone think that he deserves to be a saint, or even if the age of miracles has passed on?

"If one adds up the good versus the evil committed by the pope, there is no question he has done far more harm than good. The pope, given his visibility, had the power to transform the world for the better. But he chose instead to reiterate cruel medieval cant. With a few words, he could have moved the world forward, revoking the senseless Church doctrine against the use of contraception, abortion and sterilization that causes such acute misery, overpopulation and degradation of humanity." FFRF

While he did do some good; if you count "curing" a nun who prayed to him, and forgiving Galileo (350 years too late), he did seem to always have one foot in the dark ages through his 26 years as the holy see ( during which he beatified over 480 new saints himself).

1) Women's Rights. The catholic war on the reproductive rights of women. The pope's campaign to put abortion into back alleys and women's rights back to the dark ages should be looked at with some embarrassment, without even mentioning his policy on voluntary sterilization.

The saint-to-be killed more people in Africa and worldwide (25 million dead from AIDS and 40 million more infected) with his stance on condoms than the Nazis burned in Europe. ( this is an ironic statement since PJP apologized for the Catholic church burning hundreds of thousands of Jews alive)

PJP equated both contraception and genocide as "intrinsically evil".

Don't forget john-boy's stance on women's rights: men are made in god's image and women are for breeding. How many women are beaten because they can't divorce abusive husbands?

2) Gay Rights. The intolerant views toward homosexuals: PJP referred to gays as the "new ideology of evil", and suggested that gays are in need of psychiatric treatment. Ever wonder where Fred Phelps gets his BS from?

3) The papal priestly pedophilia scandal: 2002, when more than 60 Catholic priests in the US became the subject of child sex abuse investigations. The US Church paid millions of dollars in damages to victims, and Cardinal Bernard Law, the archbishop of Boston, resigned in disgrace over the subsequent handling of the scandal - though he was later appointed to head a basilica in Rome - and PJP did nothing.

http://www.theonio...content/node/27834 'nuff said.

4) Catholic war on Democracy. The church's official stance is that it is a sin to vote against the papal doctrine - other than that, you can vote for who you like and go to hell.

http://www.priests...ons/voterguide.htm

5) Stem Cell Research: The catholic church has single-handedly suppressed the single most promising line of scientific and medical research this century based on an iron age book and PJP's personal prejudice.

http://www.telegra.../06/30/ixnews.html

6) Assisted Suicide, or the right to die with dignity: Torturing people, like Terri Schaivo for what? http://www.washing...798-2005Mar26.html

7) Divisiveness and Intolerance: In Dominus Iesus, a 2000 document that denied the ability of other world religions to offer salvation independent of Christianity.
http://www.vatican...inus-iesus_en.html

Of course PJP made Pious a saint after he sat idle and watched the holocaust go on in silence...

Not having read any of the links, in a nutshell, what miracles has good old JPII done that would qualify him for sainthood?

(I'm not a Catholic, and by my definition all believers are saints with a small s. So he's one of those at least, but I'm not so sure he deserves the big S.)

it's a two step process.

1) Beatification - requires one miracle - PJP allegedly cured a nun with parkinsons who prayed to him after his death. Still needs a (catholic) doctor to confirm that there was no medical explanation.

2) Canonization - I thought this meant his remains had to be fired out of a cannon, but apparently requires a further miracle.

I vote that we call it a miracle that anyone still buys this crap.

No just full of hate, forced to be a catholic altar server as a child, just venting and hoping to offend some of the christians here as much as they have offended me. They can give the pope all the wonderful titles and praises in the world, I just felt like slinging some shit back at them. If they put someone on a pedestal, I have the right to chop at it's base.

I guess I was kind of right.

I was making a very reductive compare/contrast analysis between you and tekriter.

And for the record, all Tekriter does is win arguments.... he has lots of spare time to research his arguments.

Did they get anything right? Or was it a rehash of the first one hundred issues of Mighty Thor?

The politically correct Thor. He isn't allowed to throw his hammer around any more because it would make people feel bad. And he always obeys the speed limit in his goat-drawn cart, and never discriminates against those poor oppressed Frost Giants and...

Dear God, I can't do this.

Or maybe, like a dyslexic devil worshipper, in a dark and solemn ritual he sold his soul to Santa.
