i am planning on building a computer, and wondering if anything seems wrong with the specs i am going for.
so let me know what to do!

Case: Antec Nine Hundred
HD: Hitatchi T7K500 500GB SATA II
MOBO: Asus Striker Extreme
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
DVD DRIVE: PLEXTOR SATA PX-755SA
DVD DRIVE: BenQ lightscribe
MITSUMI FLOPPY/CARD
VIDCARD: EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS
SOUNDCARD: M-Audio External
PS: OCZ GameXStream 700W
RAM: OCZ PC6400 2GB

so far it's looking to cost me about $2000

i don't mind paying that much, just wondering if my money would be better spent in some way. any and all input is appreciated

I already have the Case, the BenQ drive and the soundcard. so those won't be changing ;)

Just my opinion but i would wait until the next gen video cards are out and games that are able to run DirectX 10 are also out, thats just me though, it sounds like a sweet rig.

Nearly a month later, the 2900XT is looking to be a flop, so your choice of 8800GTS should fit well. Did you build this yet?

I'm doing a similar system myself:

C2D E6600
Asus P5K
2GB Corsair XMS 6400 800mhz
EVGA 640mb 8800GTS
Thermaltake Armor Jr.
Antec TP Trio 650W
X-Fi Xtrememusic
Logitech X5500 5.1

Some parts are already in my possession (X-Fi, armor jr, TP trio, P5K) and I hope to have the build completed by the summer.

I'm still having trouble picking out small things like CPU cooler, VGA cooler, possible optical drive replacements...

Ah! Wise choices on the z5500 and the 8800GTS 640. I love my z5500 to death and maybe a bit more.

Yah I'm having trouble justifying spending the incredible amount more than the Z5300e but apparently the sub is quite a bit bigger and the satellites give off a crisper sound. I also figure that after this I won't be slapping down money for another set of speakers for at least 3 years. Thankfully sound technology doesn't advance as fast as the other computer components.

it's not done yet, still have to buy the CPU and Vid Card, then it's time to build the sucker. i went for the thermaltake V1 CPU cooler, it's gotten good reviews, i think a VGA cooler is just a waste of money. i went for the plextor optical drive because it is based on SATA, and not IDE, which results in a faster and more stable connection (less coasters) so, you should give that one a look.
