locals and glass

Don't get along. I'm pissed that this time last year I had lots of friends in the local crews, but now I'm a total outcast. I went to a party with like 20 local explorers and it was just about the most cold and awkward moment I can recall, with a nearly universal cold shoulder and a general "what is glass doing here?".

It wouldn't piss me off but for the fact that it's just highschool drama and gossip that started all this shit, but because it all trickled from one of the 'core' members it seems like I have turned to everyone's scapegoat. Is a cave sealed? Must be because Glass posted pictures of it on his website. Is a building alarmed? Glass' fault because he got spotted leaving there.

There are even two guys who have physically threatened me, saying that the next time they saw me they would kick my ass... this I can live with. At least if the two guys had the balls to jump me I could fuck them up enough to prove a point and it would be settled, rather than them staying in the corner of the room and looking at me as if "they would if they could." I can't imagine caring enough about exploring to the point where you'd actually want to get into a fistfight over politics... and what do they have to even care about? Most of the reasons the rest dislike me is because of lies spread by them! The basis of their dislike of me is really not founded on anything.

The only reason all of this shit took any momentum is because I don't really care to follow what the veterans say. I explore for my own personal freedom, not to be a part of the group. I explore because I need to be without restrictions, not so that a new list of expectations and rules can be applied to me.

I told TC Drainer that there was an emergency sewer exit out of a building where he got arrested, so that in the future he doesn't have to get caught there and the explorers don't need to wrestle with increased suspicion and security. Cool? Nah. That is what I guess they consider secret information, so tension builds. Then, another explorer forum comes up, I join, we bullshit... it's all cool right?

Nope: FORUM WARS begin; this is the ultimate exercise in futility and immaturity I can imagine. So a new member joins and starts saying all kinds of false info. Magnus, the owner of the forum asks me if I think so-and-so, I say that I don't but it sounds like a spammer. Turns out that it was a well-respected member of the local's main forum. My bad, I guess. But there on out, nobody trusts me and I can't make a post on the local forum without it becoming an anti-glass flame war.

I haven't signed on there since January, and I don't think I will go to another explorer party for my region again.

Hope to see some rational people at OPEX.

Still pissed about this whole thing.

yea, same here. I like people who stand out from the crowd. I have openly said on this site that I take things from locations and I am not going to back down from that even though a lot of people on this site are against taking things. Heres what I'd do: go exploring with a whole new group of friends until this whole thing blows over and they forget they forget they were ever mad at you.

I can't say anything negative about our Hamilton Group. I's because we see UE as an entertainment and nothing more. Unfortunately many people see UE as being cool.
It's a fucking hobby!. But I guess even between stamp and empty bottles collectors there are fights because many people take minor hobby too seriously.

yeah, i hate that.
same thing with my other hobby, cars.
i got into FWD's because i couldn't really afford to drive or insure a V8. And no, since being a 'tuner' is uber-cool, well, the groups that have sprung up are just plain NFS underground retarded.

this whole exploration thing is a fucking hobby and nothing more, at least in my humble opinion.

Exactly.

I think it's be interesting to see a list of things people consider more important than urban exploration.

Like, for example:

- my family
- my friends
- my job
- my other bobbies
- etc...
- mowing the lawn
- random personal shit
- my pets
- emptying adult diaper regularly
- urban exploration

It's JUST A HOBBY. Not a lifestyle.
