Initial D- The Movie

i was waltzing through Borders the other day and stopped at their foreign film rack and there sitting on the shelf was an entire run of the animated Initial D. That was cool, but sitting next to that was a movie named Initial D. So I bought it.
For a foreign movie with a horribly dubbed english track, it was pretty good. If you're a car guy.

It makes me want an AE86 Corolla... what burns my ass the most was back in 1993, my friend Eric had an 82 Corolla SR5 coupe, a 80 Celica GT hatchback and a 79 Celica ST coupe... do you have any idea what those cars are worth in this market.
Right now, I found an old Datsun 510 sitting in a field in Crown Point NY... i'm in negotiations with the owner to get the car... what kind of shape its in is anybodys' guess.

Bandi- any experience with the 510? Are their replacement floor panels/body panels and glass? And can i (wait for it)... drift in it?

my friend has an old toyota tercel hatchback its an 81, she inherited it from her grandmother. The car is nothing special but VERY rare here in quebec because of salt cancer. She gets offers all the time for the thing!

Samurai: NO experience at all with the 510. One of my favourite cars, though... and I'm building a model of one right now. That car in the field... buy it.

(I have no idea what parts availability is like for them, and I am DEFINITELY not the voice of reason... so you PROBABLY don't need to listen to me but meh, they're freaking awesome little cars.)

I had a pair of AE-86 Corollas which I actually scrapped last year. One was a GT-S twin cam, one was an SR-5 SOHC. Neat cars... SO rusty, and to be honest, I had soooo many flakes offer to buy the pair, arrange a time to meet with me to look at the cars, and never show up. Literally 30 times this happened. So I finally just dragged them to the wreckers, something I'll regret for the rest of my life but, oh well.

Nostra-Youppi: I want that car. Simply because I have some sick obessesion with Tercels.

I'm in Calgary right now, I can't believe all of the first generation Tercels (and other neat little cars I've forgotten about because of the rust in Ontario)

Also saw a Toyota Celica GT-4 RC yesterday... RHD, AWD Turbo. Fucking hot.

Seems like everyone out here drives a Skyline, too.

Just talked to a friend about the 510... apparently sheetmetal is available, and they make pretty awesome drifters.

SR20 is an easy swap... and the rear limited slip diff from the round headlight era Subaru WRX is nearly bolt in.

buy it.

(Oh... and I'm in Calgary for a rally. Pics when I get back. WE'RE NOT THE ONLY PORSCHE IN THIS ONE!)

as a bonus... sitting across the road from the Datsun 510 is a Datsun 210... the rear window was blown out of it sometime during the reagan administration... it's rough, but interesting.

the 510 is in worse shape than i thought, sitting in a field for over 15 years has done a number on it. There is no title, but being that the car is almost 30 if not over 30 years old, that's not a problem in New York.

I'm sorry to hear about the '86s... i've really got a bug for one at this point. I hit up ebay last night and I found a couple of '86s, but they were RIDICULOUS overpriced. One was from Ontario and it was a Trueno... didn't know they were imported to North America...

Anyways... Bandi, if you see a cheap cheap cheap RWD Nissan/Datsun or Toyota in your travels, or even an old RWD Mitsu, let me know!

My neighbor drives a Datsun B210 as his daily driver... which is unfortunate, because until 2 years ago, it had been stored indoors at the local nissan showroom.... it's just getting destroyed by the winter weather.

A Trueno in North America? That wasn't SUPPOSED to be here. I couldn't believe all the JDM cars in Calgary, seemed like one in 20 was right hand drive and super-foreign (Like a Mitsubishi Delica Super Exceed 4x4)... all your minivan are belong to us!!

My dad used to have a '77 Corolla SR-5 liftback. I want another one of those... swap in a 4AG and go drifting!

I found an 81 Corolla hatchback up in Witherbee, but the people are kind of driving it and it wasn't for sale which kind of frosted me. These folks have no idea what they're driving and they drive it year round... I've got a friend of mine in Tennessee looking for some RWD Yotas and Datsuns, but pickings are pretty slim. I'm starting to think that i'll never get to dorifto. Anyways...

Oh, the 510 and 210? The old fart that owns the property won't sell them. He'd rather let them sit there and rot into the earth.

Ever out on the west coast? I saw probably 30 AE-86s in calgary in the 4 days I was there.

edit: ok, so calgary isn't exactly the west coast. But... uhhhh... yeah. it's west.

Dude, you're gonna hate me... guess what I'm picking up next weekend? (Although I have to drive halfway across the country to get it.)

Anyhow... it's a 1972, it's boxy, it's made by Datsun, it's running dual Webers and already has a full cage.
