i can't fucking sleep... i NEVER have trouble sleeping, in fact I am always sleepy. But after driving to Atlanta, then to Calgary, and back... I can't sleep. And for the hour that I do fall asleep, I'm having stressful dreams about DRIVING!

k, i'm done.

I work nights a lot. I get home at 8am and go to bed as soon as I can. I end up waking up at 1pm and not being able to sleep further for the day then I have to go back to work again overnight. I just want to get an uninterrupted 8 hours worth of sleep. Hopefully without the aid of any pharma-aid crap. But if I have to use pills, do any of you have any recommendations?

bandi - you can try just force yourself to stay up then when you eventually crash you'll get LOTS of sleep, which is almost what I have to do. Too many periods of awakeness for over 24 hours in a row... Ughhh...

Ambien. Seriously. It's the best thing I've found.

Heh, it's definitely not over the counter.

It's not over the counter. My doctor gave me a bunch of samples back in the day and a script that I've now lost. SIGH.

Also, I've found I sleep better if I have a walk a couple of hours before I go to bed and stop drinking caffeine about three hours before.

I used to work the late shifts at a fast-food joint. I would often have trouble falling asleep. I found that one thing that surprisingly works well for me, is to go to Tim-Horton's on my way home and grab an iced capp. I find that when I'm so tired that I can't fall asleep, caffeine makes me less tired and brings be back to a decent level where I can actually fall asleep easier. It's crazy, but it works.

you guys are lucky... you all work one shift. As for me, we have a rotating shift which means 7 days over overnights, 2 days off. 7 days of 3pm to 11pm and then one day off and then 7 days of 7am to 3pm and 4 days off... it's madness.

on days, i never get more than 3 or 4 hours of sleep a night... i'm usually homicidal by my long weekend.

I actually had it worse then you -but thankfully for only 2 months until I found a better job. 2 days of 7am-7pm, 2 days off, 2 days of 7pm-7am, 3 days off, 3 days 7am-7pm, 2 days off, 3 days 7pm-7am...

That job fucking sucked, I would spend my days off trying to adjust my sleeping schedule ether 12 ahead or 12 behind. I ended up like a zombie in a few short weeks. I think the management implemented such a shitty schedule on purpose, that way everyone quits before they get a chance to get a better pay raise, or god forbid, someone retire from that company. For those that want to know, the company was AmCan -if you happen to know someone from upper management in that company, do everyone a favor and viciously ass-rape them.
