The only thing that really pisses me off about the entire thing is that the law seems to be very un-balanced in the issue. There has been relatively no legal fallout against the natives yet tons of arrests against the people of Caledonia for simply standing up for their country and land. I think someone was actually arrested for trying to put up a Canadian flag.

Yet blocking a highway, a rail passage and burning tons of shit is fine. That's called freedom of expression. This shit should not have been tolerated from day one. The OPP should have moved in, cleared everyone out and used lethal force if necessary.

How exactly does the Government treat the Indians? I would really like to know. As the devil's advocate here, they are only 2.3% of the population yet they get WAY WAY more money than their numbers dictate. In fact more Chinese and Irish are in this country and we spend absolutely nothing on them, (UNtil recently where the Chinese got a lump sum deal). The Irish we beat, put down, disempowered and treat like general shit for about a hundred years have seen nothing. I am talking about in Canada here when they immigrated.
Natives go to University for free, do they take advantage of it? Not often, they have amazing flows of cash and resources, what do they do? destroy and squander them and don't disseminate it to their whole population.

Please, what is the actual government doing to treat them badly?

All I will say is if I blocked a road or a train track they would throw my ass in Jail faster than questions could come out of their mouths should they wish to ask them. Natives are just left to to tie up the economy of a whole province. Now that is discrimination.

Good old "Political Correctness" at work. Funded by our tax dollars. I worked with people of many backgrounds and noted that while the company I used to work for would kick my white ass out the door for even thinking about cracking a racist joke, would look the other way when a non-white person spews out their racist horseshit. I've heard plenty of that before and that racist horseshit was not just directed at white people either.

Also, when I applied for EI when I got laid off by that company, those assholes would not even so much as give me and two other white guys the time of day but they were very helpful to the non-white applicants. The employees at EI were mostly non-white themselves (only one was white) and when I complained, the message I got was "go fuck yourself".

I believe strongly in the right to peaceful demonstration but, it ceases to be a peaceful demonstration and becomes nothing more than the actions of goons when roads/railways are blocked and people are being assaulted.

Why do you think CP Rail doesn't haul that many intermodals? CN is losing money left and right trying to haul 12,000 foot intermodal trains where CP has a more fluid and flexible rail strategy. Sorry, but trucks stay on the highway to make money and trailers stay off trains to make money. There are a couple of great threads over in the www.railroad.net forums under the 'Canadian Pacific Railroad' subforum heading.

On my way home the other night (I make it a point to NOT buy gas on the reserve, first off... because my car likes Ultra 94, and secondly because I refuse to spend my money there. Anyhow, it was late, the Sunoco was closed, and I was pretty much out of fuel, so I had no choice.

Unfortunately, only the "native" pumps are running after 10:00 (These pumps have a lower price). So I couldn't buy gas because I wasn't an indian. I'm pretty sure that's racial profiling.

I think it's fucking bullshit. Everyone should be treated equally, regardless of race. Reserves are so trashy with cigarette stores overy 30 feet (In a 4km stretch, I pass 17 tobacco stores), and quite frankly, it looks like hell...

Also, the "bag smokes" that can be purchased on the rez are made from unregulated ingredients, and mouse droppings, wood shavings and a bunch of other crap has been found in the ones produced locally.... bascially anything that gets swept off the floor.

CN rail is suing the Tyendinaga nation for several million after they staged their protest and blocked trains, and you know what? I hope to hell it goes through.

Agreed. What truly pisses me off is that they claim that they aren't Canadian,and aren't required to respect Canadian law (in Canada!). If this is the case for them,then I don't think that they should be able to pick and choose to take advantage of various social services that good ole Canada provides. Imagine the uproar if that ever happened.

That said,I am Irish,Scottish and part native,too,and I couldn't disagree more about how all of this has went down. Beyond ridiculous.
