| | | Alrighty so this is my thread where I can update pictures and ask questions without wasting too much space. I took three seeds from a bag of shwag, took a paper towel with designs on it, got it damp (but not dripping) in water I'd boiled to get rid of chlorine/fluoride, put it in this glass container I have, put the seeds on a part that didn't have any ink/pictures (I don't think it matters but just in case), put another paper towel on top (again where there weren't any pictures touching or near the seeds), put the lid on it making sure to trap in a bubble of air (I've heard this is necessary for tap-root development), then put it in a filing cabinet. I'm going to check in about half-an-hour and see if they've popped. When they do pop (and damn it they'd better pop!!!) I'm taking them out to this field under electrial lines, digging out a space of weeds, and then carefully digging a little hole for the seed, gently placing it in so as not to damage the precious root, then cover it with soil (it'll be like .5cm below the soil), give it some water, and leave it alone for a while. We might be getting some rain, so if the forecast looks good that it'll come I'm going to put some empty plastic bottles around the plant, punching holes in the side for air. This way they'll get plenty of water (it's on a slope so it'll trickle down to them, not to mention the bottle's mouth isn't very big), but they'll be protected from harsh wind when all they have are little cotyledons. Does it sound like I'm doing things right? Any suggestions? I'm hoping the seeds will pop within the 24 hour limit, but I've heard of some seeds taking several days, and considering the harsh paths these things have travelled to get to me, they might take a little longer than average.

| | | Yeah I did that, these things pass the test. I checked on them at 3:45 (almost 26 hours after being in there) and they haven't changed a bit. Still though I've heard of people checking them, going outside for twenty minutes, checking again, only to find that they've cracked in that short amount of time. I'm just going to be patient, and I won't check again until at least midnight. Edit 1: Alrighty I checked on them at 7:30PM and they seem to be swelling. I hope I'm not imagining it but yeah; I've been doing reading on wikipedia about seed germination in general and the seed slowly absorbs water until it swells to the point of cracking the hard outer coat, then the embryo sends out a root, then the embryo sends out a small pre-formed shoot with two seed-leaves. Then, the seed's nutrients used up, the seed-leaves build up sugars like normal and when the plant finishes growing its first set of true leaves the seedling stage is done

| | | Update: As of 6:30 AM one of the seeds has popped! Hopefully the others will too by the time I get back from summer school and I can go plant. Hehe, drying is the biggest challenge but the best way, imo, is to either dry them in a tent on-site (which will REEK like a motherfucker, just fyi) or hang them on branches with a tarp over them to protect from rain and too much sun. They'll take like a week to dry, go by when even the inner stems snap cleanly like dried crackers. Of course it'll still reek considering you'll have like two ounces, so you'll have to double, triple, or even quadruple bag it if you don't want to smell like a giant pot plant while you're taking it back I'm going to be taking an even bigger risk since I actually have to walk like 1.5 miles through residential neighborhoods with a backpack full of freshly dried weed, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

| | | When I came home I told my mom I was "off draining" (hehe you know you ue a lot when . . .), packed my boots and mag in a bag, and my little seeds. I took them out to pretty much the best spot in the city in terms of sunlight and water, but it isn't very secure. Whatever this isn't a serious grow, I'm just seeing what happens. It's just a big field with 6' tall weeds everywhere, no trees or anything, and it's just up the hill from a creek I can get water from. It's the area under a telephone line that cuts through the woods. Fine for 1 or 2 females but I definitely couldn't pull off a real crop there. Also because it's so narrow, there's a trail (much overgrown but there nonetheless) running through the middle which is used presumably by telephone workers, but it's not like they have to go there much. Anyway when I got to the field, I tore up a good-sized area of weeds (easy to tear up too), and put the seed in the ground. The tap root was still only like .25". The other two hadn't popped yet; they're the bigger seeds too. Since these seeds came from two varieties, one Mexican one unknown middies, I think the seeds that didn't pop are either inviable, or they just take a while, or maybe they're the Mexicans and need high temps to germinate (I read that sativas from hot regions need hot temps to germ). Well we definitely have high temps here . . . it's 97F now with a heat index of like 105F. Sweat was dripping off my face. I put those two seeds in the ground too with a little water, hoping the heat would help them along. We also have scattered showers predicted and it's starting to cloud up. A little rain would be nice but I hope it isn't a big storm because that'll kill the plants. I'm figuring that that one seed, at least, will certainly sprout.
