Fire forces evacuation of Whitby hospital
71 patients moved, hospital closed indefinitely

WHITBY -- Emergency personnel scrambled to evacuate Whitby hospital Monday night after an electrical fire filled it with smoke.

Standing in front of the darkened four-storey facility, hospital spokesman Arnel Schiratti said he had no idea when Lakeridge Health Whitby would be expected to reopen.

"Until we can go in and assess and fix the damage, it will be closed," he said.

Man that really sucks. I know somebody who works there too. I doubt that it will stay empty long though. Unless Whitby wakes up and smells the coffee, realizing that it needs a proper large hospital and decides to demolish that one.
