The abatement contract was awarded earlier this week, so get a move on getting in again.

Memorial Auditorium and the Donovan State Office Building are a step closer to oblivion after action Tuesday by Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp.

The waterfront development panel approved the hiring of a construction management firm to oversee removal of asbestos and other hazardous materials, an enormous predemolition effort that is expected to cost $11.3 million.

The Central Wharf site is out, and the Memorial Auditorium site is back in the running for a Bass Pro Outdoor World store in downtown Buffalo.

Rep. Brian Higgins confirmed Thursday that plans to build a 100,000-square-foot store on the historic Central Wharf have been scrapped. The focus will now be on building from scratch on the site where the idle Aud now stands.
