It just hit me as I was drying my car off... In the past week, i have washed my car 8 times... EIGHT!
I cannot stand a dirty car, but damn! I spend more on car care stuff than i do food!

Anyways...

Not if you are doing it properly. You could create swirl marks if you don't follow good procedures.

yeah, as long as you're using actual CAR soap, then it's fine... Stuff that's not made for automotive finishes will take the clear and paint right off after a while!

I've got no reason to wash my Toyota since our road is engulfed in dust every day from the water-resevoir construction across the street... and the SAAB sits in the garage and gets dusty, but not dirty. Hell, it's outta the light so much of the time it hardly oxidizes anymore!

guys...come on... i used to detail cars!

The biggest problem is where I work... salt fallout from the powerhouse stack if the wind is blowing it towards the parking lot... that and the bugs. It seems we get fucking bugs here in the middle of -30F January! :o(

i've never heard of any of those products.
The steps, though, are universal, although having two buckets is going a tad overboard in my opinion. I use Eagle One car wash, Rain X Bug & Tar Remover, Westleys' Bleche White for tires, Meguiars Hot Rims rim cleaner, Advance Auto tire shine (i love the smell of it), Absorber synthetic chamois, and NAPA glass cleaner. Inside the car I use Eagle One Nano Cleaner for the leather seats and door panels, I am trying this Meguiars stuff for the dash and plastics... seems to work pretty well. I have this Mothers Back To Black for some of the black plastic/hard rubber trim that fades. It brought my Cavalier bumpers back to life.
