I am running Windows XP, Apache 2.0.59, PHP 4.4.7, MySQL 5.0, & MySQL GUI Tools.

When I try to install a BBS & get to the database info. I enter all of the info correctly, then I get this error message.
Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client

Also, people form outside my network cannot access the server. Here is my IP info.

Windows IP Configuration

If the both the web server and MySQL are running on the same box you need to specify localhost as the SQL server, not your NIC IP.

Second, as Professor Chaos stated, you need to forward one or more ports on your router. For normal web servers this will be port 80. How do do this will be specific to your router. Also, if you have a software firewall on your box you will need to allow incoming port 80 as well.

I've got the firewall set up for 80 on Apache & 3306 on MySQL.

How exactly would I do that?

Sorry, I have no idea about this.

-open IE, Firefox, whatever you're using
-type in 192.168.1.254 also known as router ip adress
-go to port forwarding or whatever it's called
-redirect whatever port(s) you are using to the correct server IP adress

make sure you've got that covered before anything else.

Makes me wonder, if you're having a hard time doing that, which is fairly simple how are ya gonna make sure your server is secure and all? I mean, ish....

I would at least run server 2000/2003 if you wanna stick to windows. Not XP.

ok. I've figured this out. What was confusing me was this "Versalink" software bullshit.

It's got 4 fields.

Service Name: [SERVICE NAME]
Global Port Range:[#]-[#]
Base Host Port:[#]
Protocol: *TCP *UDP

What do I need to put in these fields?

What kind of router do you have (make and model?). Doesn't look exactly right, you are missing the destination IP field or something similar. Can you post a screen shot of it?

Also, don't forward port 3306, you don't want your MySQL visible to the outside world, just your web server.

It had a list of computers in my network to choose before that screen.
I have it up now, or at least it was up 8hrs ago.
Here's 2 links

I'm still working on the pages & everything. Basically last night I just got the forum set up.
Thanks for your help.
