Lots of you are talking real serious radios, but most of you seem to be more interested in just radios in general, rather than radios for exploring.

So post your UE radioing related stuff here. Advice, hints, tips, info, prices, makes, suppliers, and frequencies.

Peace

I used to use radios in all my exploring until my stash of radios was removed from my posession by individuals who wanted them more than i did.

But they were a very useful tool (even the crappy frs ones) and helped save our butts many times.

now some hints/tips.

VOX sux, do u see the swat team or even rgular cops ro any other public safety agency using VOX, no you dont, hmm wonder why. It is unreliable, and wasteful. Who wants to hear people coughing or clearing their throat, and especially idle chit chat, thats just annyoing and blocks the airwaves form important traffic. Definately hadns free speaker/mic can be an asset but please go with plain old push to tlak instead of vox, you will thank me for it. Who wants to have to worry about your message not getting through cause the vox cut you off, or you not being heard because someone was coughing and transmitted over you.

Keep radio chatter to a minimum, dont waste your radios for bullshitting, save them for necessary communications. There have been times when my group has been split up do to unforseen circumstances, and had we been bullshitting on our radios all day they may have been dead at that time and then we probably wouldnt have faired so well in our escape. Because we had working radios though we could orchestrate things well and came out of things ok.

Most radios are not going to travel very far in a building or underground compared to how well they travel outdoors in open space. FRS radios will not amke it very far indoors or underground, but a bit more power may make all the difference.

thats all i can come up with for now, but if anyone has any questions or anythin they would like me to touch base on please just let me know and i will try my best to help out.
