This thread is merely posted just to make you Canadians whine...

I've been on a HUGE Tragically Hip spree lately. I have to listen to "The Darkest One" and "Bobcaygeon" at least once a day really loud.

For those of you who don't know who they are, check them out.
For those of you who do know who they are and like them as much as I do, any favorite songs?

And for you Canadians who hate them and Rush... well, mission accomplished!

I go back to the olden days with Last American Exit (off their debut EP from 1987). Nice anthemic sing-along type of song.

that's hard to find even though i'm 65 miles from Canada.
for us, their real introduction to us here was "New Orleans Is Sinking" off of "Up To Here".

The Hip in their earlier days were a most excellent rock band. They have been just wank for the past 10 years or so.

Rush is just the worst. ugh.

Meh,I've said it before,I don't really mind The Hip,but I can't get past his whiny singing voice. Although the same could be said about Geddy Lee from Rush,I absolutely LOVE them! Seeing Neil Peart play his drums was nothing short of amazing.

From what I've seen, the Tragically Hip is more of an Ontario phenomenon. People out there love them more than I could ever understand.

I was going to say no, but with further research I have found that they are indeed... from Canada, Oakville Ontario.

Not that big of a fan. But 'It's a good life if you don't weaken' is a beautiful song. One of my favorites.

My Great-Aunt used to have a cottage in Bobcaygeon,
my Aunt Margaret (RIP) used to have one right next door.
There was a treehouse in the front yard with a little square cut in the roof, so we could see the stars.
And we'd cross the road to the penny candy store, and then walk down the road to my Uncle's dock.

My God, it seems so long ago.

Bobcaygeon by the Hip always makes me cry.
Always.

playing it for you right now, Lexi!

I left your house this morning about a quarter after nine
coulda been the Willie Nelson coulda been the wine
when I left your house this morning
it was a little after nine
it was in Bobcaygeon I saw the constellations
reveal themselves one star at a time

Drove back to town this morning with working on my mind
I thought of maybe quitting
thought of leaving it behind
went back to bed this morning
and as I'm pulling down the blind
the sky was dull and hypothetical
and falling one cloud at a time

That night in Toronto with its checkerboard floors
riding on horseback and keeping order restored
til the men they couldn't hang
stepped to the mic and sang
and their voices rang with that Aryan twang

I got to your house this morning just a little after nine
in the middle of that riot
couldn't get you off my mind
so I'm at your house this morning
just a little after nine
cause it was in Bobcaygeon where I saw the constellations
reveal themselves one star at a time

Subdivisions may be my favorite rock song ever. It's like a little poem written to me. Ok, kidding about that part, but seriously love that song.

'The Pass' off of "Presto" is one of those songs that will eternally remind me of my junior year of high school.
Rush is just one of those bands that has been there as a backbeat during my life and I really love their music, as corndog as that sounds.
