The award winning Soviet director Andrei Tarkovsky filmed Stalker in 1979. It was based on the Boris and Arkadi Strugatsky science fiction novel roadside Picnic.

Like Tarkovsky's previous work, Solaris, he downplays the sci-fi aspect and focuses on a moral and philosophical meaning in life. This combined with images of desolation and rather erie ambient background music make for an absolutely beautiful film.

But this is just my opinion; if you have seen it what's yours?

It has been discussed any times here. Very pretty movie. I actually keep a copy of it in my laptop bag so it is with me almost everywhere I go.

mutantMandias may cause dizziness, sexual nightmares, and sleep crime. ++++ mutantMandias has to return some videotapes ++++ Do not taunt mutantMandias

mutantMandias is something more than human, more than a computer. mutantMandias is a murderously intelligent, sensually self-programmed, non-being

I've only seen parts of it but it was beautifully done; Tarkovsky was a brilliant director.
