So I did an evil, dirty thing and purchased an ASUS M3A board and an Athlon64-X2 4000+ yesterday. I was gonna go with a Phenom 9500 but I think the better plan is to grab the cheap 4000+ and wait to see if Phenom gets better. I still kinda feel like I should have done Intel anyway but I have this gut feeling that AMD is going to stop sucking with an awesome Phenom revision or something.

Anyway still need to grab a 2GB Corsair XMS2 800mhz kit and a Radeon HD3870 512mb. Should be a fairly competent system, and maybe I can OC that 4000+ a bit.

So anyone else still hanging onto AMD?

I used to be an AMD user. My quad is my first Intel box, and I'll most likely stick to Intel. What amazed me was the fact that the E6300 at stock speeds can match a 6000+ X2. Then there is the whole "overclockability".

I might reconsider when they actually have a quad that works properly.

im still running an A64 3000+. box has served me well, but its time to upgrade.

im actually thinking of moving back over to intel.

i was holding off on upgrading, waiting for the AM2+ boards to get released. asus just updated their site yesterday with the AM2+ boards, pretty underwhelming. really not much new here. just flashed AM2 boards. i was hoping for a more full featured M3N line. i was just going to go dual core until they worked out the erratum problems with the phenom cores. the 5/6000 series cpus are pretty cheap at this point.

Intel has gobbled AMD up.
The Intel dual cores are dirt cheap, fast, run cool, and they rock!
The X38 chipset is really nice too.
XPx64 runs great on them, but stay away from vista.

oh yea, no plans on moving to vista. no HDAudio or proper SLI support, forget it. hell, i just moved my main system over to XP last year!

i went to the AMD tech tour in Q4'07 and the M$ speaker was actually jeered by the crowd (all OEM hardware guys) when he started going on about the security, compatibility, and usability of vista.

i had the pleasure of 'demoing' vista on my laptop for work. removed a perfectly good linux (ubuntu-desktop) install for it. i thought the the mac vs pc commercials were exaggerating. i was wrong. it didnt last more than a week. i wanted to chuck my laptop off the roof of the building it was so frustrating. they fixed things that were not broken in the first place.

Vista is like a born again XP Pro on crack. Meddlesome and bothered, constantly fidgeting.
I had it on a laptop like you for a week, I came ever so close to frisbeeing it into the wall!
