10 year old exposed delta 100

A few days ago my friend handed me 2 rolls of delta 100 that he shot at my wedding, almost 10 years ago. Apparently he found them in a box that has been at various times in his closet, attic, and most recently his dirt floored basement. The canisters were not in plastic cases and they were dirty and rusty. I thanked him but honestly I didn't expect to get any usable images.

However... after giving it some thought I remembered that HC-110 has very good anti-foggant properties. Since I don't have a ready supply of potassium bromide, I decided to give HC-110 Dilution B a go.

I have never been a big fan of HC-110 as I find it tends to make everything look soft, but I was really curious what the results would be like on such poorly handled exposed film.

Guess what? The images turned out almost perfect. There is a tiny bit of background fog but it's almost invisible. I am seriously impressed and I now have a new found respect for HC-110.

Does anyone else have any stories of rescuing long lost previously exposed films?

Ok so here is a sample image from the old negs I developed in HC-110.

I tweaked the curves a bit and cleaned up some dust but this is fairly representative of all of the shots. Not too bad considering I expected to get nothing at all.

that's a damn good result from 10 year old film.

i'd like to see the original, untweaked version for comparison if that's possible too.

I found some FP4 at my folks house in a 126 cartridge in the basement. I'm guessing it's late '60s to early '70s. Wish I had a reel that fit this film size, I'm dying to see what's on it.

I'll have to rescan the neg to get an untweaked version but I'll do that next time I am scanning.

As for Myelin, you could always try to develop the 126 film in trays. I sucks to develop roll film in trays but it can be done, as long as you don't mind being in the dark for a while. A monobath would be another way to go but I'm not sure what that would do for the fogging situation.

Patterson plastic reels can be clicked to a size that will accept 126 film.

10 years is nothing for a modern film, I developed films of +40 years old and still got acceptable results, much depends on the storageconditions of course.

And I'm not sure the patterson can accept the 126 instamatic cartrigde, I think it's too wide to fit the 135 setting and too thin to put it in the 127 setting.

According to the 126 film wiki entry it is supposed to be the same width as 35mm film. If that fails, I do have a couple Paterson tanks and reels I can try (otherwise never use them - don't like them at all).

Heh, Didn't know that. Always a good idea to read the manual or what's on the box hé. I never needed it, I only use the 120/220 setting. But it's nice to know.
