There is a longer version, but i can't find it again. Apparently it would of cost 100,000 British pounds!!!

I had one when i was going to automotive school (not the red one). Well, we were tinkering with it in front of the bay doors one day, when an old guy came across the street from the warehouse of the Porsche/Audi headquarters to have a look. So he looks things over, makes a few comments, and in his thick German accent says "There is something in the warehouse you would probably be interested in!!" He leads us to a dusty, tarp covered crate just inside the door and proceeds to uncover it. There, in all it's splendor, was a Porsche, full competition, multi-Webbered, twin cammed, AN fitted 4cyl Jewel!!! apparently, some schmo ordered it years ago, paid for the majority of it, but then just dropped off the face of the Earth. BUUTTTTT...the really cool thing was that he told us that, that engine would of been a drop in for the Lada!!!!! Something about the Lada used a Fiat engine, and the Fiat was actually designed by Porsche, based on this 4cyl. I think he said a 916(?), but pretty much everything he said after "bolt in" was pretty much lost to the pulsing sound in my ears, the sweaty palms and the adrenaline rush i was getting!!!! Unfortunately, the paltry $10000 left to pay was waaayyyy out of reach for a College student! lol! Can you imagine the look on drivers faces as i would blow by them in that shoebox!!!!

Btw, the car kinda looked like this, without the flames, but with Monza wheels and blacked out windows.

Never heard of Fiat and Porsche working together. Volkswagen and Porsche did on the 914/916.

Lada, never seen one in real life. That was a cool vid though. I like when the Lotus driver is taken the unmodified Lada round the track and the hubcap goes flying off!

What the hell is a squib anyway? I thought G.B. was pounds.

I thought Volkswagen had a hand in the 924 and the 928?

I can't say with authority whether Porsche was involved or not. I'm just repeating what the oldtimer told us. Remember, Fiat didn't design for Porsche, it was the other way around....again, according to this guy. Regardless, the block did look similiar, similiar mount pads, the bolt pattern for the bell housing seemed like it was in the ballpark and so on.

Let me refer to my reference library and I will get back with yall

Edit * No reference to Fiat in any of my Porsche books as per the 914/16, 924 or 928. Only thing I found is about the Cistialia 202 (a 1947 sports racer)

Porsche 914 = Volkswagen (It was sold as a VW in Europe, engine was based on VW Microbus, with 1.7, 1.8 and 2.0 liter versions available. Mid engined, targa roof.

Porsche 914-6 - Porsche 914 with 2.0 liter flat six from Porsche 911.

Porsche 916- Hardtop prototype of the 914 with a 6 cyl engine. If this guy had a 916, it's worth a few hundred grand.

Porsche 924 = Originally SUPPOSED to be a Volkswagen... ended up being a Porsche, and early models had an Audi engine. Front engined, transaxle in rear.

Porsche 928 = All Porsche... not intended to be a VW at any time. Front engine, transaxle in rear.

I wonder if the man who looked at your Lada was thinking Skoda?

I've never heard of a Porsche engine fitting in a Lada, but I could definitely be wrong. Skoda used a rear engined, air cooled flat four, and looked pretty similar to the Lada.

Fiat and VW/Porsche have no association at all, but VW owns Skoda.

And on the Lada note... last year I was coming back from Toronto on the 401, doing about 140-150 km/h. A red Lada, same body style as the one in the pic below blasts past me like I was in reverse.

Turns out the guy had a turbo 13B rotary engine in it... NICE SLEEPER!

A rotary powered Lada!!!! Now that's different!!

If it helps with this little mystery....the engine wasn't a flat four, it was an inline four. I don't think he said Skoda, i could be mistaken, it was 17-18 years ago. Like i said, it was at the Porsche/Audi "headquarters". I remember Fiat being mentioned, Porsche being mentioned, bolt in being mentioned and crap load of money being mentioned!!

Now it's going to bug me that i can't remember...i'll have to call my buddy who was there and see if he remembers anymore!!!

you want something that was a pain to buy parts for... I had a 1979 Plymouth Horizon. It had a VW 1.7L, Peugeot 4speed manual, Citroen dirve axles... what a douche to get anything for it. BUT, it did MOVE when it was running A-ok!

Hey now, not all of us live where there is no snow. This car was purchased in winter of 1992 as a beater for the sum of $125.00
I drove the shit out if that car... It was like a tempermental rally car. The biggest thing was that it kept eating clutch cables, the front motor mount (which was part of the starter assembly) kept loosening up and the brakes were shot! (forget about stopping quick!)
Other than that, it was a blast to drive!

Ive said something like this before on the site. But literally when we get a tad bit of winter mix,the world shuts down over here. I wont even drive, not because of myself but other peoples idiotic driving.

You got dumbshit Johnny Miata trying to do 80 on the tollway causing a massive 25 car pileup

one of the ways you know from you're from the Adirondacks is when you are flying down the interstate at 70mph in 4 inches of snow without batting an eye. :D

When I lived in Tennessee, as I've said before, northerners were merciless. We'd be doing 60+ without fear in that wanna be snow that southerners get.

THIS is the snow we get, my son!
