| | | Posted by Jonsered Don't like the Doors. Never did, never will. Overblown, pretentious art rock. Bah! Look at me, I'm a tortured genius! The only thing that idiot dope freak Morrision ever said that makes sense is No One Gets Out Of Here Alive. Sorry Samurai, but I really wish Jim had died before they got famous, then I wouldn't have been subjected to 30 years of them.
| i like The Doors because, in a way, they counterpoint the Sixties which suits me fine. Think back to the music that was on the scene during the mid/late 60's, all this peace and love shit, flower power... Bah! The stuff that the Doors were singing about were right out of the subconscious, dark things that really were out of place for the time. But, they were attractive, they were a flavor that the Sixties should've gone in. I mean you've probably heard it a thousand times, but the message behind The Unknown Soldier and Five To One were a rallying call for a generation to stop demonstrating, pick up a weapon and take their country by force if need be- instead of bitching, act. On a personal level, Morrison was a wreck, sure. His poetry is either you get it or you don't and sure, the musical skills of the Doors were in question, but when you combined all four, Morrison-Densmore-Krieger and Manzarek, you got something with substance. Of course, this all opinion, but not everyone is going to like what I like.
