Although my host OS isn't linux, I do boot up a Debian VM for development work quite often (I contribute to a few open source projects). I've played with Gentoo, Slackware and others but I keep going back to Debian because it's simple and it just works.

Another question might be what window manager do you use? I've been running Xfce lately but I'm also trying to use one called awesome more and more. It's pretty slick for certain workflows, but I'm not super comfortable with it yet so when I have work to do I jump back to the familiarity of Xfce.

I'm a slacker at heart. Desktop runs Slackware 13.1 and lappy runs Gentoo for kicks and grins. I do love portage...

Debian, SUSE, RHEL NETBSD are the more common ones I come across.

Laptop and desktop are both Fedora 13. I have another laptop, partially disassembled, running the XFCE spin of Fedora 13, and a secondary desktop running. . . Hmm. . . Some more recent Ubuntu desktop, though I don't really care for Ubuntu generally, and certainly am a GNOME guy when it comes to GUIs, and am not looking forward to the shift to Unity.

My (currently decommissioned) LAMP server is Ubuntu Server 8.04.

I've got VMs of various Ubuntus, Debian, CentOS, and a few security/forensics live distros (such as Backtrack, Helix, and SmoothWall). If I went back into my CD archive, I'd find copies of Slackware 3.2, Redhat 5.0, various Mandrake, Corel, and Knoppix releases. . . I have run Devil Linux on a firewall before. Oh god. It'd just too nerdy to even delve any further into! haha.

Bottom line is that I'm a Fedora/CentOS/RHEL man at heart.

ubuntu 8 on some servers, fedora 7 (!?) on some servers, opensolaris, freebsd. all servers actually. have ubuntu8.1 on a laptop, but i tend to use osx more often.

Got about 50 machines on ubuntu 12.04, and a few stragglers on 10.04 now (maybe 10?). A few freebsd boxes, and a couple of ESXi hosts. Still using osx on the desktop though since I started doing more iOS stuff.

I made my laptop 12.04 and had some issues.

I still have 11.10 on the desktop and might revert the laptop to 11.10

Hi.
Crunchbang "Waldorf" with Openbox window manager. Used to use Macs, but too expensive to keep purchasing new machines every four years.

Arch

But I've also used Ubuntu, Debian, BackTrack, Gentoo, Mint, Elementary OS, and I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting.

I use i3wm it's pretty minimalist and for the most part keyboard binding controlled.

its a tiling window manager you dont really use it with floating windows like that, only good for screenshots with background by default it opens the app in full screen and when you open a new app it splits the screen in half
