(not really sure if this is subject appropriate, but i think that it qualifies for this bb, since the people here are more likely to have both camera and technical know how.)

just caught this article on Lifehacker.

Turn Your Point-and-Shoot into a Super-Camera

interestingly, they mention that the process of installing CHDK is non-destructive and can be done via the sd card. has anyone tried this out? sounds mildly interesting.

I did it awhile back before I got my D-SLR.
Works fine.
Hurts nothing.

Non-related (well kind of)

Remember that a digital camera can give off quite a shock if you hack into it even when the batteries are out....burned a nice hole in my finger a few weeks ago making a "picture frame" out of a digital camera screen. OUCH!

grit your teeth in the face of fear. self repression is the true sign of a coward, toss your inhibitions to the wind.

overall, this is kinda cool. adds RAW support to my little A560. its not the best camera on the block, but i got the A560 via AirMiles, so this is just an added bonus.

this would make getting an old cannon DSLR/SLR from a pawn worth it. now i just need to figure out how to use all the extra features.

not that i know of specifically, but i have seen a couple of porting projects.

found some good multi-platform raw processing software. posted the supported cameras up here, taken directly from the FAQ for Raw Tharapee.
