Tattoo Infection Warning from Niagara Falls

BUFFALO, N.Y. We have a warning for people who may have gotten a tattoo at a Niagara Falls shop.

Authorities say an investigation found eight people developed skin infections after receiving tattoos from John Portik in Niagara Falls.

No one has contracted HIV or hepatitis from the tattooing, but doctors urge clients to be tested for the diseases because they don't know whether Portik took proper infection control precautions.

Portik has been ordered to stop tattooing and has surrendered his tattooing equipment. Anyone who has gotten a tattoo from him since 2001 is being encouraged to get tested.

Scary stuff,wow.
The last tattoo I got(in Hamilton),the artist showed me every step of the way,as in having me watch her take a fresh needle from the package,using fresh gloves,etc. I'm thinking of adding to my last one,but things like this are scarier than the thought of having it finished,yikes....

Well, I'm glad I always go to Love Hate. They're fucking pro there.

if anyone if from eastern mass, or rhode island, they have most likely heard of "sin on skin" they are famous for tattooing famous people

anyway they have been temp shut down 5 times for "unsanitary" practices. last year one of the tattoo needles broke off in some girl, it could of been a bad needle. but my friend owns a shop and he says,"they most likely autoclaved it and they put it back in plastic, and then reused it"

it just goes to show that you should go somewhere extremely reputable, i never understood why somebody would pay less for a shitty tattoo when they will have it for the rest of their life.
