It was a pretty good song, one of their best ones. But then again so is The Gunner's Dream and Hey You.

Yeah, but the others are based on either fiction or long-gone stories of the author's youth. Shine On...is based on what was happening at the very time it was written. I'm basically a Pink Floyd hater, but even I can't deny the genius nor the love that went into this song.

I've always liked "Wish You Were Here" myself.
"Comfortably Numb" does illustrate periods of my life nicely.

Wrong. It's Fearless.

I love Pink Floyd, though I'll admit that I find the majority of it really depressing.

There is something to be admired in Roger Waters tortured voice singing about his dead father, clearly it traumatised him.

And on the other end of the spectrum, you have, David Gilmoure, stunning guitar player, fantastic clear annunciation. One of the greatest guitar players in the world, clean crisp note for note leads, seldom uses distortion.

His writing is not as morbid as Waters, but is still very good, just a little more upbeat.

What a formidable quartet. The comfortably numb second solo is one of his best works.

Amazing song indeed.

and The Wall was created for people to take acid and listen to, and then watch when the movie came out.

The Wall was, I believe was the last collaboration of the four members. legend has it that Roger waters was so demanding and demeaning to all the other members that they felt like employees instead of bandmates.

Talented as Waters is, Gilmour proved to be a formidable talent in guiding the remainder of pink floyd along, without Roger.

The tortured writing style is missed, along with Rogers vocalizations ( I won't call it singing) But I hear they are planning a reunion in 2009. unfortunately Rick Wright (keyboards) will not be in attendance.

I thought I had every Floyd song ever made, I had never heard Fearless before. It is the stoney mellow side of floyd. I have 600 or 700 songs, I guess its possible I missed one? My least favorite is Scaucer Full of secretions, a room full of monkeys on LSD composed that song. And as for poor Sids stuff? Well some of it is just difficult to listen to more than once or twice.

The London Philharmonic put out a CD of Pink Floyd years ago, it helps to be semicomatose or, really love the Symphony to listen to it!!

Good song. Shine On You Crazy Diamond still pwns. I don't know the story behind Fearless, but I do know the story of Syd Barett (sp?), that's the clincher for me.
