Traditional Korean Wedding

This marks the first weekend in as long as I can remember where no urban exploring was done (although I think I might've spotted a worthy building to revisit from a taxi). Instead, I went to my friend's wedding, and I might as well post some pictures in here to keep this board going.

Most Korean weddings are actually pretty pathetic--drop off your money donation (wedding gifts that don't fit in envelopes are not accepted), sweat through a boring speech, and help yourself to a free meal afterwards, then get the Christ out of there--but this wedding was held in a more traditional setting. That means traditional costumes, a traditional ceremony in which the bride and groom must bow to their inlaws a certain number of times, traditional music (my friend wanted a ska band), and of course a pretty decent buffet afterwards.

One thing I learnt was that if you don't want to get too close to the action, a zoom lens is your best friend.

1. The band.

2. I found myself stuck back in the punk corner for most of the ceremony.

3. Here's my friend in his hanbok costume.

4. I'm not sure if the title "best man" applies, but here is his bassist all dressed up.

5. As you can see, not everyone dressed up. That's my wife on the right.

6. This is where the action of the wedding is going on. My friend is the guy in maroon on the right wedged between two old women, and his bride is bowing behind the white blanket held by two other old women on the left.

7. A candid look at the band.

8. There were fish to entertain the kids.

9. I wasn't happy with the lighting under the canopy.

10. Another look at the bride.

11. After the ceremony ended, the couple is getting ready for photos.

12. Bride and groom with mothers.

13. They made the mistake of standing partly in the shade, partly in the sunlight.

14. Groom's family. Incidentally, my mom has a similar hanbok dress she wears at any opportunity she gets.

15. Bride's family.

16. Time for the shot with the friends.

17. See if you can spot me accidentally doing an Earl Hickey pose.

18. It's hard to photograph people when they're standing behind that ridiculous groom hat.

19. I wanted to get a picture of the bride's hat thing, but it ended up better like this.

20.

21. Time for that free food and beer I mentioned earlier.

22. The bride and groom spotted later that night.

I loved the photograph at the end of them in a casual setting with out all the traditional garb on, good way to end the set. Racetraitor, do you shoot in RAW? Editing in camera RAW after a situation like this is a great way to fix white balance when you get really yellow tints like under that canopy.

I tried using raw once but didn't figure out exactly how it was advantageous, and it took way too much extra time.

If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense.

is it just me, or did the brides parents look very unhappy, perhaps for marrying an "outsider"?

just curious, bomb shots though.

Nah, almost perfectly matches the same expressions on the husband's parents.
