Autoclave

Relates to: Abandoned Asylum / Hospital / Industrial / Manufacturing
Indicators: Large / small cylinder with steam feed.

Machine used in hospitals, asylums and health centers to sterilize surgical equipment, containers, piercing needles, dishes, etc.

The machine works like a pressure cooker on a grand scale and steam is fed into the vessel at high pressure. The items to be sterilized are left in the Autoclave under intense heat and pressure for usually around ten minutes.

They emerge sterile and ready for surgery.

Most large autoclaves have an extraction system and cooling off period also. Some autoclaves are built into a separating wall of a clean room, where the sterile tools can be packed and stored (Very much like the picture below) dirty tools go in on one side - clean tools are stored on the other.

Additionally, autoclaves may be used in industrial applications. They are primarily used in the manufacture of composites, to force plies of fiber and matrix to solidify into a bonded laminate under high heat and pressure.
Its a really cool location and you should check it out if you can.
