Well. . . I guess I like #1 the best out of the set. Although the whole has an 'I shot this in an empty storage locker' feel about it.
Photo 3 confuses me, are you or the band hopeful of a product endorsement or something?
The portrait shots seem a little forced, the subjects don't look comfortable or natural. Nice try with #2 though, too bad for Mr. Smartpop though, he looks a little staged, awkward & uncomfortable.
Maybe try some portraits cropped closer in on their faces. Also try shooting some shots of them being what they are, a band! Even if you use the same set, they'll look much more natural if they're doing something they're comfortable with. If anything it'll help break the ice, and you'll get a better interactive set of shots from your subjects.
Hang out with them. Go to one of their rehearsals, and shoot, the more comfortable they get with you the less nervous and more natural they will act in front of the camera.
Like you said your new at this, build a rapport with the band. Shooting people is harder than buildings. And staged band shot are all about branding, you really have to get them spot on, or it may be best not to use them. An easier approach may be from a photojournalism point of view, i.e. take pictures of them playing music.
Don't be discouraged, I'm not trying to rip on you either. Like you said you're still really new at this and this is a tough sort of assignment. The more you work on this type of stuff, and with the band in particular the more satisfaction you will get from the results.
There is nothing I see here that wont improve with you becoming less "REALLY new" at this. Keep plugging away at this if you enjoy it, and 'it' will happen.
