Since this is the Pissed Off Forum.....

I fucking hate people who drop that kind of cash on animals. Unless the thing saved your freaking life, it's not worth it.

It get's even worse when they start bitching about gas prices afterward.... If you want to afford gas, don't keep pets. You'd be surprised if you were to add up the money you would save not having a pet...

No we don't have doggie insurance. We we're going to get it and then decided not too since it doesn't cover shots or getting her fixed. THAT was a mistake.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion! Especially in the pissed off forum. That being said, I would probably pay whatever it took to keep my dog alive. Me and my wife don't have any kids so in a way this is our kid. It sounds fucked up but I know alot of people who feel the same way.

I myself would consider paying whatever it took to keep my dog alive. Course, it would also have to be a reasonable and smart decision, not one that would keep him alive for an extra week or two or in pain, etc.

Quality and quantity of life would have a definate role in my decision.

I have kids, but I also love my dog very much. He has given me unconditional love for many years and is always able to bring a smile to my face. Those are two things a lot of people can't do for me!

Doggie insurance is $15.00/month in my area, but there are stipulations. Well worth it from what I can tell.

Did your dog run away when you were a kid? Or did it not go for help when you fell in the well? Something like that?

I feel the same way about people who buy a bunch of electronic doodads and then whine about having to sell them.

I'm sorry your dog, Wilky. I've had to deal with some substantial vet bills in the last year and it's never fun.

As long as my dog has a will to live, I will pay whatever I need to. If he stops eating, stops interacting with people, or shows any drastic personality changes; then we will think about putting him to sleep. But as long as he is happy go lucky, I will pay for any treatment to make him better.

Putting a pet down is for when their quality of life will only get worse. But if there is any realistic hope that the pet can recover and still have happy years ahead of it, they you have to do what you can. Thay are family, and family is family.

Period.

P.S. - My dog is between 12-15(pound dog so we don't know his exact age) and even with his health problems, he is the happiest dog in the world. As long as he is happy and enjoying life, I won't stop him for any reason.

My gramps had a simple test to see if a dog would recover from any sickness which he called the bounce test. He would take the dog out to the field and shoot it with his 12 gauge; if it lived after it bounced we could keep it.

After my old dog got diabetes I can understand why he did that. It sucked hardcore to watch a dog go blind, bony and insane while dropping cash on insulin.

I would pay whatever it took to keep my dog alive.

We had to a few months back.
My dog had really bad Smoke Inhalation(House burned down)
and he was put on a respirator. The doctors said if he made it through the night he would make it. So my mom went to the doggie hospital to go seem him and he stood up, Wagged his tail and everything. He seemed a little pathetic tho(Understandable)

Things were looking good tho...

Next morning, My mom got a call from the hospital saying fluid was going into his lungs and he was not going to make it and if they should put him down, Rather then suffer. My mom had him put down.

I miss that dog

Hope everything goes well with your dog.

awww.. what a darling! Hope your dog is feeling better!

Vet bills can be quite high, but I think it is definitely worth it if the services provided are crucial in maintaining your pet's health. Everytime I take my cats in to get any kind of vet consultation, it costs $60 a visit. If my cats needs shots, the shot is $10 but then because the vet spends his/her time giving the shot, you gotta pay another $60 appointment fee. I never regret taking in my pets or having to pay this kind of money for them.

Since this is the "Pissed Off" forum, I would like to express that I really hate it when people view animals/pets as worthless or view paying money to help a sick animal get better as worthless. For some, pets liven people's lives and are companions to others. I think that for those reasons alone, spending money to save their life or maintain good health is definitely WORTH IT.
