In the absence of Jef, the Pissed Off Board may be straying a little far from what I feel it's intention was; A light-hearted bitchfest of what pisses us all off in our daily lives. In that vacuum, some nasty threads have popped up and, to be honest with you all, are really not bringing us in the right direction, or making our collective UER experience a grand one. Maybe we should bring in a new, independent moderator? Someone that could maybe steer this board in the proper direction.

I'm not saying that the surliness and outright burly nature of this board should be sterilized or sugar-coated for the masses, but more tempered with an air of restraint.

I was just thinking that this worked on a couple of other boards when the private board leadership was removed, why not here as well?

Actually, Jef made the board so two people on UER could fight with each other without derailing threads. The rules were that one had to invite the other member to the board and then it would go from there. I believe the first person Jef tried to engage in this vein was Blackhawk.

It seems that is against the TOS.......

but still, i'd like to see it to remain as a place to bitch about our everyday lives and the really weird, annoying things that occur in them.

True, there is a line that has been crossed quite a bit lately. I guess the problem is it's not possible for some people to debate something without getting hostile.

I fully agree with both Sara and Samurai. Though this board DID start simply for personal difficulties between two members, it has also flourished into a nice little area for people to get things about life in general off their chests.

I fear that, if the people of this board do NOT choose a new moderator, it may be permanently closed. I think it is up to all of you as to what direction you'd like to take it.

Hey, I just wanted to note to everyone that I was about to create this thread, but then Samurai took the initiative. Raticus advised me that I should probably mention that, so nobody thinks that Samurai just suddenly got power-hungry and is trying to take over the board, or something. He's not.

So, I guess I'll post what I was going to say, just so everybody knows where their board stands, right now ...

Recently, this board has been under scrutiny many times for several violation of the ToS and forum rules. Instead of simply closing the entire board, we have decided to give you all a choice. You may either elect a member to become the new moderator (who MUST enforce all forum rules and the ToS), or you may choose to shut down your private board. Please use this thread to discuss, and let me know how you all decide to move forward.

The same situation came up in another private board and the members nominated a few potential moderators, made it into a poll, and voted. It worked well there.

I would limit the nominations (or volunteers) to 3 or 4 though. If you get too many, the votes get too spread out and a deciding majority becomes more difficult to obtain.

I am amused by the concept that Samurai's post, which discusses how things have devolved from stability and moderation into abusiveness and disharmony, starts with the phrase, "In the absence of Jef."

I suspect that there is not often a high positive correlation between his absence and the lessening of civility.

Generally speaking, the mods stay out of private boards. If I notice a double post or something like that, I'll delete it. For the most part, though, we just let things run their course and let the board mod do their thing.
