Does anyone else out there use MURS?

MURS, for those not familiar with it, is a radio service, license-free like FRS, which was created in the US by making some of the old VHF 'color dot' frequencies license-free. I'm using some 1 watt Motorola Spirit handhelds on MURS frequencies and they absolutely kick the posterior of everything else for communicating from here to... wherever. Yes, they even work better than simplex on 2 meters with 5 watt HTs. (The band is practically destroyed here by intermod and fun little offshoots from cell sites!)

Some businesses are still using the MURS channels from when they were *licensed* for them - it allows for commercial use, so they never had to (and never did) switch to another service/system. An interesting side effect of this may be that the security people at or near a particular location may be on MURS frequencies. Watch out.

More info here, for the curious: http://www.provide.net/~prsg/murshome.htm

Mmmm... the sweet smell of damp concrete. <3
