I used their internet security software several years ago. It never worked properly, and wreaked havoc with my other programs. I switched to Norton Internet Security, and never had another problem.

Fast forward to April of this year. My Norton subscription ran out, and I lost my job. My ISP (Comcast) offers McAfee for free. I decided that was the way to go since finances are tight. Besides, they had to have improved over the last six years. Right?

WRONG!! McAfee still sucks!!! It changed my settings, embedded itself all over my hard drive, and wreaked havoc with my games (again). Here's the best part - McAfee's last update had several errors. These errors affected the firewall and emails. I called McAfee and tried to fix these problems. Guess what? THEY DON'T HAVE A SOLUTION YET!!! In the mean time my PC was infected with 8 viruses!!!

At this point I have had more than enough, and decided to get rid of McAfee immediately. However, you can't just use the "add/remove software" option! Oh no! You have to use that, tell your PC not to restart, and then use a program from McAfee's website to remove ALL of their crap!! I almost went postal.

Earlier today I broke down and bought the latest version of Norton. I didn't want to spend the money, but it was worth it. All viruses are now gone, and my PC is working beautifully.

So, in conclusion, fuck McAfee.

Try Crap Cleaner as well. As the name suggests, it cleans all sorts of crap from your computer, fixes registries, uninstalls programs, etc. Nice for removing gunk at start up.

Have you ever tried to uninstall Yahoo Messenger? Boy, does it ever leave bits all over the computer! It, of course, defends itself by saying it keeps that shit around in case you ever reinstall it so you're settings and shit are saved.

I've used both of these for years and in conjunction with each other keep your compy pretty clean. The best anti-virus program I've found in called node32. It doesn't suck your system resources like Norton or McAfee does and it's easy to use.
