Small things...

My goal for this year was to get all of my preventative maintenance out of the way. However, I did do a couple of small mods to open up the motor a bit more.

My engine, the S52B32 is the result of this countries F*cked up emissions laws and therefore has a bigger displacement than the OBD I motor (.2L) to compensate for the more restricting OBD II software. The OBDII engine also included a more restrictive intake manifold. However, the manifolds are interchangeable and that was one of my first mods. A before and after Dyno showed an increase of 19 horsepower at peak power. Removing the restrictive traction control throttle body got me another 3~4. In the world of N/A BMW tuning, that's a lot, especially for the price. Overall I probably only spent $350 for a very noticeable difference. And now I can beat an STi in a 60-120 pull.

And last night we had a meet at sonic despite the crappy weather..

The Silver E46 M3 with the CSL wheels is an actual 2006 ZCP M3 with <5k on the odometer. My friend got it for his 16th birthday and has babied it since.

The gentleman with the Supercharged Dinan 5 drove 2.5 hours from Aspen just to make the meet. Considering me and a buddy threw this together a few days before, it was quite the compliment.

Yeah, it was an M5. Anyways, the 16 year old is now 17. Mommy and daddy also bought him a supercharged escalade that is faster than the M3 in a straight line so the ///M stays in his garage most of the time. He's more responsible than most kids I know though.

Before F&F 1 came out, i used to go hang out at the street races in Ontario, California. I swear one of the fastest vehicles out there was a mid 90's big ol honkin Suburban on big offroad wheels and tires with a supercharger sticking out of the hood. Dude had all his friends and a big entertainment system in it. This guy smoked everything that night. I believe you about the Escalade.

The manifold was a pain in the ass install for me. It was a couple summers ago, 95+ degrees outside and I had to replace the starter at the same time. I guess the starter was what pissed me off the most, its impossible to reach.

But definitely pleased with the results.

we used to go the street races in Cleveland, Tennessee (outside of Chattanooga) and there was a guy there with an old Datsun 280Z... only it wasn't a Zmotor. It was a 383 or 400 small block Chevy and he wasn't afraid of anything there. The car was a sleeper from hell.

Yeah, figuring out how to wedge it in under all that OBDII crap was a b*tch.

OBD II is friggin AWESOME from a maintenance standpoint. Ive never had such an easy time diagnosing a problem. I love the code readers. True it sucks for modding, but there is a heaven on earth for car guys and its OBD II!

Mmm. Valid. But OBDII requires a code reader. The OBDI E36 M3 has a nice little feature where you can simply tap the gas pedal five times with the ignition turned to a certain position and it will give you the codes. Plus, OBDII uses a crap load of engine bay space.

OK, i'll give you that, but for getting a car inspected in Der Empire State, it sucks asscrack. You used to be able to either pull the bulb or fool the inspector when you got the car inspected. Not now... not with OBD II and plugging the car into Der Empire State Netwerk.

fuck you new york state fuck you.

Ive heard of guys making a mock obdII port and installing a dummy computer in order to fool OBDII readers. Ill look around online for it. Good stuff!

Please do. My future plans involve a motor with no OBDII possibilities...
