8-12 through 8-14: garner state park

decided to take a mini vacation, soak up some sun, and lounge around the frio river. didn't get to do any ue, but can say this. if you live near sabinal or d'hanis, check them out. most of main street (hwy 127) in sabinal is now abandoned, i counted 7 empty storefronts before i got bored and stopped counting. a few places in d'hanis looked promising, but.. was more interested in getting back to san antonio.

here are some images (in order) taken at garner over the last couple of days.

day 1:

we arrived sometime in the early evening/late afternoon. my gf and i checked in to find that the other two freax we invited had been there long enough to choose the site and start setting up. clear sky when we arrived, went outside to a garbage can blowing by and clouds quickly moving in... i setup the tripod real quick and grabbed this shot.

tore down the cam as soon as the rain started and headed to the campgrounds, waited for 10 mins for the rain to pass by, and started setting up the tent. i wanted to try out the optical flash slave with the one flash gun i remembered to bring, so took this shot.

after that, it was getting dark, being the designated cook for the trip, i decided to start the night off right by burning something. the victim here was a large chunk of tree root that resembled a catfish.

i had three reasons for doing this trip. first: height of the perseid meteor shower, wanted to try and catch some photos (epic fail, saw many, caught none), second: gf wanted to play in the water and get away from the city for a bit, third: my friend wanted to show his gf where he spent most of his days growing up.

while catching meteors was an epic fail on my part, i did get a few decent shots in between timed exposures of the stars.

nothing like the skies i am used to in the high desert, but.. better than nothing, and way better than what i have started getting used to in the city.

day 2:

no day pics.. as i was either cooking, swimming, or relaxing all day.. so fast forward to the early evening/late afternoon again.

everyone headed down to the water to take some daylight pics of the swimming area we claimed, and some sunset pics, etc. i was busy cleaning up the cooking equipment. i took two pics before heading down to meet them.

while heading to meet the other 3, i noticed a side trail and decided to take it instead, which seems to have payed off well as it landed me the following 2 pictures.

we all kicked back for a while and bs'd, then i headed off to shoot some more scenery.

and before heading back for the night, decided to take one of the bridge nearby with a car heading across it.

that it for now, as usual with most of my trips to parks, was too busy enjoying myself to take pics until everyone was either asleep or too dead to follow me around.
